Since 1945, the United Nations has served as a vital arena for international diplomacy. Our certificate program in UN Studies offers a deep understanding of the UN and how it operates, including the promise and limits of international cooperation. Over the course of the program, you'll become well-versed in how the policy community utilizes — and seeks to reform — the UN.

The AA in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Arts and Humanities provides students with a broad perspective on the culture and artistic expression of human beings and societies. It is designed to stimulate appreciation for and understanding of values, ideas, and artifacts of culture and society, specifically as these relate to how different cultures through the ages have responded to themselves and the world around them through the production of creative forms of expression. Critical thinking skills and self-understanding through these courses provide a framework for lifelong study in the liberal arts.

The Health Professions Education online stand-alone modules are for those interested in developing themselves in a health professions education role, and offer the flexibility of learning to suit those currently employed. This module will focus on integrating health and medical humanities within health professions education. 

This Certificate of Higher Education in Arts and Humanities provides a broad introduction to the arts and humanities, including history, art history, philosophy, classical studies, religious studies, music and English. You’ll expand your cultural horizons whilst learning to think and argue clearly.

This Diploma of Higher Education in Arts and Humanities encompasses a wide range of fascinating disciplines in the arts and humanities. These include art history, classical studies, creative writing, English literature, history, music, philosophy and religious studies. You can also combine your study of the arts with other options including English language, French, German or Spanish, science, technology, psychology, or social science.

Students who take coursework offered by the International Studies department develop abilities to critically analyze and understand global issues and cultural identities. International Studies offers college transfer courses in the humanities and social sciences.

Humanities is an interdisciplinary field that involves the study of artistic, intellectual, and moral achievement. Humanities encourage students to examine both established and emerging expressions of human creativity and thought so that they become more engaged in their own lives and the world.

Humanities, Philosophy, and Arts examine human values and experience within a wide range of cultures across the globe and over the course of history. Students will study, interpret, and evaluate classic works in architecture, art, literature, music, philosophy, religion, rhetoric, and the theater, and they will encounter questions to which there are multiple plausible answers. The study of language, philosophy, and rhetoric provides crucial tools for understanding and interpreting human knowledge and experience. Students pursuing the program in the Humanities, Philosophy, and Arts will enhance their skills in critical thinking and both oral and written communication. The Humanities, Philosophy, and Arts program prepares students for further study in the arts, history, humanities, literature, philosophy, communication studies, and/or world languages at a four-year baccalaureate institution and provides an excellent foundation for students interested in administration, communications, law, public service, and teaching.

Pursue your interest in art, music, philosophy, literature, cultures, and languages, and turn your passion for the humanities into a college degree. As a humanities major, you’ll gain the ability to reason critically, communicate effectively and make connections across broad fields of knowledge. Begin with your Associate of Arts (DTA) degree at Tacoma Community College. TCC offers the Associate of Arts (DTA) degree with a Humanities track. The Associate of Arts (DTA) degree is a Direct Transfer Agreement degree and prepares students to transition successfully into a related Bachelor’s degree program at Washington State’s 4-year universities.

Humanities courses cover a wide range of topics and disciplines, such as film, literature, mythology, and popular culture. These courses are often multidisciplinary, combining subjects like film and psychology, or popular culture and history. Some of the courses examine particular cultures, such as Francophone, German or Latin American. Humanities courses can be a chance to delve into a topic enjoyably and creatively, as well as provide practice in many of the skills needed for required courses, particularly in critical thinking and academic writing. Some of the Humanities courses fulfill the Cultural Diversity (CD) requirement for the two-year degree.

This program offers a full semester (30 ECTS credits) taught in English and is an opportunity for international students to acquire cross-curricular training in humanities and to develop their cultural competence.

The study of humanities is concerned with human experiences and the manner through which they have been expressed. Courses in the Humanities Program examine the historical, social, philosophical, religious, and artistic expressions of different cultures and their diverse perspectives on the sacred as well as secular worlds. The Humanities-Philosophy course offerings at Laney College provide students with an opportunity to delve into the grand, fantastic, and beautiful world of ideas. In addition to providing a transformative approach to the humanistic traditions, the department will also give students the opportunity to develop their critical thinking as well as their writing skills.

The Liberal Arts: Arts and Humanities Associate in Arts degree program is designed for students who wish for a broad knowledge of liberal arts and sciences with an area of emphasis in Arts and Humanities. This program is an ideal choice for students planning on transferring to the California State University or the University of California as the student can satisfy their general education requirements, plus focus on transferable course work that relates to majors at CSU or UC.

The Liberal Arts Degree: Arts and Humanities is a group of courses emphasizing the human condition — its limits, potential and creative expressions — through the study of cultural, literary, and artistic expression of human beings.

Art and Humanities courses emphasize the study of cultural, literary, humanistic activities and artistic expression of human beings. Students will evaluate and interpret the ways in which people through the ages in different cultures have responded to themselves and the world around them in artistic and cultural creation. Students will also learn to value aesthetic understanding and incorporate these concepts when constructing value judgments.

The Associate in Arts (AA) in Liberal Studies degree is offered for the student intending to transfer to San Jose State University and obtain a Bachelors Degree leading toward the career of teaching. The program provides an excellent foundation in general education including the arts, sciences, humanities, and critical thinking. Students completing the degree will have completed the lower general education and will be able to have that series of courses certified at the time of transfer to San Jose State University. The major courses also further enhance the liberal studies emphasis for depth and breadth of study. Students interested in transferring to other California State Universities offering teacher preparation programs should also review the major sheet for an Associate in Arts in Elementary Teacher Education for Transfer (AA-T).
