22 Humanities Associate of Applied Science Programs

The Associate in Science in Biological Sciences is designed for students interested in acquiring a solid foundation in basic biology, evolutionary theory, and the scientific method. This program is appropriate for students seeking entry-level positions in the life sciences.

The Associate in Science in Computer Information Systems is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required for a variety of positions in the field of computer information technology. The program includes foundation courses in computer information systems and a wide range of skill-builder courses in current topics of technology.

This program prepares individuals to function as simultaneous and consecutive interpreters as well as translators of American Sign Language (ASL) and other signing systems employed to assist deaf and hard-of-hearing people, both voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice interpretation. This includes instruction in American Sign Language (ASL), alternative sign systems, fingerspelling, vocabulary and expressive nuances, oral and text translation skills, cross-cultural communications, slang and colloquialisms, and technical interpretation.

he Associate of Applied Science in Biblical Studies consists of 63 semester hours of courses designed to focus on developing the skills to study and apply sound biblical principles.

The Associate of Applied Science in Christian Ministries is a 63-semester hour program. Students may complete this program at their own rate of progress.

The associate of science degree program provides students with a broad academic education to prepare them for the workplace and for upper-level university study. The degree requirements for the associate of science may be met through LCCC’s university transfer courses or by taking university transfer courses at other recognized colleges and/or universities. Since requirements at transfer institutions vary widely, students should consult the catalog of the transfer institution and plan their program with an advisor. Select from the general education/transfer module: English composition; Social and behavioral sciences; Arts and humanities; Mathematics/statistics/logic and natural sciences.

This program is intended to provide quality, basic preparation for local church ministry. The primary purpose for offering this program is to support and enhance the Christian ministries of bi-vocational pastors and volunteer lay workers in the local church. It is intended for Christian adults age 23 and older. The Associate of Science in Ministry is not considered full professional preparation for a full-time ministry. Those who definitely plan to be pastors are advised to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Biblical and Ministry studies. The Associate of Science in Ministry degree is designed to be earned entirely online.

American Sign Language/Interpreter Education Program (ASL/IEP) is a two-year Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree program to train individuals to become ASL conversationalists and or professional ASL interpreters. Successful graduates of this program can seek job opportunities in settings such as educational, medical, legal, mental health, religious, social, and community-based employment. This program provides individuals with the professional knowledge and skills that meet or exceed the minimum professional standards necessary to perform in a broad range of interpreting assignments. This program will prepare individuals for the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) and Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS).

The Southwestern Illinois College Sign Language Studies/Interpreter Training program prepares students to work as interpreters for the deaf or hard of hearing community. Sign Language interpreting is a highly specialized field requiring an in-depth course of study as offered at SWIC. While the foundation of the curriculum is a commitment to American Sign Language, the professional sign language interpreter is a service provider who must be able to adjust to a broad range of consumer preferences for interpretation along a broad spectrum of communication.

The General Studies Curriculum is designed for those students intending to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree. Emphasis is placed on obtaining both range and depth in the traditional Liberal Arts.

The Associate of Applied Science curriculum at Mid-America College of Funeral Service is designed to meet the prerequisites for licensure and funeral service employment. It fulfills the requirements of accreditation and approval agencies.

The Addictive Disorders Counseling Program is designed to prepare students to work in the field of addiction counseling. Both a Certificate of Achievement and an Associate Degree are available. The program provides students with the education and training to develop paraprofessional expertise and qualify for employment as entry-level addiction counselors. A required fieldwork component offers students invaluable hands-on experience working at a facility dedicated to the treatment of alcohol and drug addiction. Licensed clinicians seeking expertise in addictions can complete the new non-fieldwork-based Certificate of Achievement in Post-Professional Practice in Alcohol and Drug Counseling.

The Community Interpretation program provides students with a foundation in the skills of Spanish-English translation and interpretation. Students train intensively in the three modes of interpreting: simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation.

The American Indian Studies program responds to the needs of the ʔɔʔɔɔ́ɔ́niiénńɔh and Nakoda Tribes regarding sovereignty, identity, awareness, history, language, philosophy, and issues.
