Announcing a New Scholarship for Medical Students in Slovakia!

Study in Slovakia and educations.com have partnered to offer an exciting new scholarship for medical and healthcare students! The Global Access to Medicine Scholarship aims to support international students in pursuing their medical and healthcare degrees in Slovakia. Applications for the scholarship are now open for the 2026 Spring and Fall semesters.

About the scholarship program

In June, educations.com launched our first co-branded scholarship program by partnering with Study in Slovakia to offer a $10,000 scholarship to international students planning to study medicine and related fields in Slovakia. The program is designed to "[support] international students as they pursue world-class medical education and become the future leaders of global healthcare."

The scholarship application opened on 24 June and will accept applications until 31 March 2026 for students starting their programs in Spring or Fall 2026. Finalists will be notified at the beginning of May 2026, and the winner will be announced in May. The scholarship can be used to cover tuition fees at select Slovakian universities.

Who can apply

This scholarship program is open to international students from around the world who are planning to study for a medical or health sciences degree in Slovakia. To qualify for the scholarship, students must be enrolled at or applying to a relevant program at one of the following Slovakian universities:

• The University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Kosice
• Comenius University Bratislava Faculty of Pharmacy
• Pavol Jozef Safarik University
• Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra

Applicants must also fulfill all the entry requirements for the program and the university and obtain a visa to study in Slovakia (if necessary). If selected as a finalist, applicants may be asked to show proof of acceptance at one of the above universities, proof of relevant qualifications, and a copy of their passport to prove their identity.

International education in Slovakia

This scholarship is another initiative aimed at promoting international enrolments at Slovakian universities. In recent years, Slovakia has been working to increase the number of international students at its universities and promote international student mobility. The country has almost doubled the number of international students in the last decade, increasing the number from approximately 8,500 in 2011 to nearly 16,000 in 2021. In 2021, international students represented 12 percent of Slovakia’s tertiary student body.

In addition to offering affordable tuition and English-language programs, Slovakia has also continued its generous National Scholarship Program (NSP) aimed at supporting student mobility into Slovakia. The program offers monthly stipends to international secondary and tertiary students, PhD students, and academics for one to two semesters (or one to three trimesters) at Slovakian universities.

The government is also offering scholarships to support international students studying at programs aligned with its Smart Specialization Strategy of the Slovak Republic (SK RIS3 2021+).
