Studying design programs abroad gives you plenty of opportunities to create your own degree with a focus on your main interests. Within the creative field, international students can study anything from graphic design to ergonomics to UI design. Career directions are as varying as the options within the field of studying design programs; there is a large amount of freedom to explore your options and grow in the areas you're most interested in.
What can you study within design programs?
Do you have a passion for drawing? Perhaps a Fine Art program is the perfect option for you. This can lead to careers such as scientific illustrator, graphic novelist or video game concept artist.
If you've got a knack for technology, being creative using computers, cameras and electronics could lead to a rewarding career as a graphic designer for a branding agency or working within the film industry!
Are you on the pulse of the latest trends? The fashion industry might be the perfect environment for you! Fashion designers and luxury brand managers are just some of the many roles that a program within Arts, Design & Architecture can lead to.
Architecture is a perfect field for those who possess both mathematical and artistic skills, who want to build beautiful, functional and sustainable buildings and spaces for people to work, live and play in. However, if designing the structures themselves isn't for you, what about being the person who fills the space with beautiful things! Interior design is rewarding career path that requires a sense of style and the ability to see potential in a space.
If you want to think bigger than just one building, degrees in Urban Design can prepare you for careers within the government, designing and shaping public spaces, neighborhoods and entire cities!

How studying abroad makes you a better artist
Studying a design degree in itself is a rewarding and spiritual journey. It is a chance to explore yourself both as a person and as an artist. It is also a chance to develop your creative skills. In particular, studying design and creative arts in a foreign country is an opportunity to truly push yourself out of your comfort zone. You'll find yourself in new and exciting situations that will heavily influence your artistic work. Experiencing cultures that are different to your own can drastically broaden your perspective of the world, your life and the lives of others. You'll be exposed to new art forms and experiences that will offer new ways of looking at things and expressing yourself.
Is studying design right for me?
Choosing to study a creative discipline is always slightly riskier than, say, pursuing a career in business, in terms of graduate job prospects. By nature, artistic job opportunities are harder to come by as there is hot competition for a very limited number of paying jobs. However, this isn't to say a creative career isn't possible and that you shouldn't go for it!
Oftentimes, studying design or creative arts is a great opportunity to not only develop your skills but to gain valuable industry insight and make contacts that could serve you well upon graduating. Jobs can crop up straight out of university, especially programs which encourage and provide opportunities for students to develop a portfolio of their work. It all comes down to hard work, talent, and oftentimes knowing the right people. But if art and design is your passion, pursuing a creative career is definitely worth it.
