On the Automotive engineering profile of this MSc in Mobility Engineering: Automotive Engineering, you will investigate how the growth of autonomous driving, electrification, and intelligent vehicle systems will challenge and change the industry in the coming decades.

In 2005, some of the most dynamic students of the Bachelor's degree program in Automotive Engineering decided to participate in the inter-university competition organized by SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) to design and produce a race car capable of passing several tests, from design to engineering efficiency. That was the first 46 car. From then on, they have competed, every year, at some of the main European motor racing tracks in which the Formula SAE is held: Hockenheim, Barcelona, and Varano. 

This course aims to provide students with a sound understanding of the fundamental scientific, engineering and managerial principles involved in motorsport. The focus is on the “mechatronics” aspect of the discipline, which is the engineering of advanced control systems, multi-domain computer modelling, in-vehicle communication networks, electromechanical and embedded systems, hardware-in-the-loop validation and systems integration.

The Master's in Automotive Engineering is an official degree approved by the Council of Ministers that has been taught since the 2013/14 academic year. It is an evolution of the Master in Technologies and Processes of the Automotive Industry, taught from the academic year 2008/09 to 2012/13.

Graduates will demonstrate basic knowledge in mathematics, science, and engineering; the ability to design and conduct experiments, interpret and analyze data, and report results; the ability to design automotive systems or their separate units; the ability to function on engineering and science laboratory teams, as well as on multidisciplinary design teams; the ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems; an understanding of their professional and ethical responsibilities.

The Bachelor's degree program in Automotive Systems Engineering gives you an overview of the big picture when it comes to the optimal interaction of a wide range of mechanical and electronic components in and around the car. You will learn how vehicles become what we demand of them today.

Engineers use their imagination and knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry to devise, apply and manage the technologies that are fundamental to the wellbeing and advancement of society. This programme is based on our Mechanical Engineering programme but allows students in the later years to specialise in subjects relating to automotive technology.

Current changes in the automotive sector were the precursor of the Master´s Program in Automotive Engineering. This master offers a deep insight in automotive technologies. The aim of the master’s degree is to achieve a profile of a high-qualified technician in the technologies related to this sector. For instance: electricity and electronics, knowledge of ergonomics and the interaction between the users and the vehicle, new materials and processing techniques, comfort, navigation systems, applied control systems, without forgetting the aspects related to propulsion systems, conventional or new (electric, with fuel cell), or the state-of-the-art calculation, design, and experimental tools. The learning methodology is based on projects where the practical work requests planning and organization tasks such as the ones of real industrial project. Students get familiar with the project management, which is compulsory for any engineer.

MSc in Automotive Engineering The objective of the program, English-taught and developed into four different pathways, is to provide students with competence and skills for the design of vehicles, their components, and their methods and production processes. Students will learn how to work in interdisciplinary teams with a special focus on product and process innovation. They will build on their prior knowledge and connect with experts from different fields of study. They will be able to work in the industry sector and understand corporate dynamics.

The Curriculum in Advanced Motorcycle Engineering is part of the Master’s Degree Course in Advanced Automotive Engineering (AAE).  It aims to train real experts in the design and development of high-tech motorcycles, with a focus on electronic engineering, endothermic powertrains, and industrial design.

This degree offers the in-depth technical training and hands-on experience you need to build industry-ready skills and thrive in the fast-paced automotive industry. You first gain a broad basis of knowledge before specialising in rapidly developing areas such as automotive systems and electric vehicles, all while benefiting from practical collaboration with industry leaders. In addition, you develop the problem-solving and critical-thinking skills needed to succeed in this progressive field.

Mechanical engineers are involved in the design and manufacture of products and systems that affect us all, with expertise relevant to many organisations. You'll learn general mechanical engineering, and gain highly sought-after simulation skills and an understanding of business and project management. Specialist subjects include applied mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and electronics.

Students studying Mechanical Engineering International can choose a specialization in their 4th semester. Students who choose to specialize in Mobility Systems profit from the fact that the automotive industry is Germany’s largest industry sector with a turnover of approximately 404 billion Euros in 2015, covering 20% of Germany`s industry revenues overall. Ten out of the 100 largest automotive suppliers have either their headquarters or one of their subsidiaries near Karlsruhe. At the KIT more than 40 institutes with 800 scientists are conducting research for safer, more comfortable and more efficient cars.

Automotive Mechatronics is a life-cycle activity that involves the multidisciplinary integration of automotive mechanical and electronic systems. You will gain skills across automotive-specific mechanics, electronics, communication, advanced control and modelling.
