The Master's Degree in Design Research is a multidisciplinary space for reflection in action. Using inventive research methods and experimental approaches in design, the master's degree invites you to imagine, design and materialise alternatives capable of addressing the challenges of the present.

The Master of Arts in Interior Design puts into practice consolidated design processes, traditional techniques, independent study, interdisciplinary research and critical thinking in order to expand the borders of the design experience directed towards the design of innovative, digital and sustainable interiors.

Situated Design is a graduation track of the Master of Arts in Fine Art & Design at Avans. The programme recognizes you as a distinct presence in the world. You immerse in modern discourses and focus on prevailing conditions, situated knowledge and design practices. Your studies will take place within a diverse community of master's students from different backgrounds. You frequently collaborate with each other, across pathways and outside of the campus. This way you gain experience in a wide range of practices and establish a valuable network. Situated Design maintains strong connections with designers, publishers and institutions in the Netherlands and abroad.Through exposure to a variety of design methodologies and practices, students learn to iterate design concepts and are able to analyze, inform and shape their projects from concept to final project. Students learn to design with emerging technologies and creative software to create new perspectives and innovative forms of design and user experiences.

The MFA in Advanced Product Design Programme is a solution-driven education that focuses on the advanced treatment of design - using user studies, problem identification, and analysis.

In Digital Design studies, you will develop design thinking to create and optimize products, services, and systems with a human-oriented approach.

In the international Master's programme in Innovation and Design, you acquire specialist theoretical knowledge and practical skills for interacting in a global market. After your studies, you will be competitive in the labour market and prepared for doctoral studies.

Our MA Urban Design programme is jointly delivered by the Welsh School of Architecture and the School of Geography and Planning. The goal of this programme is to enable practitioners and scholars to transform the field of urban design through critical thinking and creative practice. Urban design is transdisciplinary, straddling professional fields such as architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning and public policy, and also disciplines such as politics, economics, sociology and cultural studies.

The Master of Arts in Multimedia Arts and Design – the first program of its kind recently set up in central/southern Italy – succeeds in fully embracing this complex area of studies, addressing the increasingly central role played by digital technologies and techniques in the design of multimedia spaces and works.

In practice, there is a common tension between those developing and interpreting planning policy on the one hand, and the designers of cities on the other. This programme brings these groups together to engage in project-based learning. You will develop planning research, urban analysis and design skills before deciding whether to complete an urban design thesis or dissertation. Both of these options can be completed as work-based studies with opportunities for summer placements.

The program in MA in Interior and Spatial design trains interior design artists to implement aesthetic, functional, and psychological aspects of a given space or space. Graduates will possess essential technical knowledge, and artistic skills, and have an understanding and thorough knowledge of the design thought process and their importance during the planning procedure. They also acquire primary manufacturing-, production processes, and their conditions. Students gain both practical and professional experiences throughout the course of their studies and are prepared to pursue their education in the doctoral program if they wish.

In addition to theoretical knowledge, graduates with an emphasis on developing business and communication skills can find jobs in design companies, cultural institutions, the art market, exhibition spaces, or even the media. Students will be able to create and manage high-quality, fundable projects and businesses in the creative industries. Through case studies and internships, they will learn how to develop design and art projects; how to communicate effectively, and achieve international success.

The School of Design is home to internationally significant research, much of which is practice-based. The teaching and research areas of the School – Design Products, Fashion, Innovation Designing Engineering, Healthcare Design, Robotics, Service Design and Textiles – represent a wide range of approaches to design research.

The M.Sc./M.A. in Interactive Media is a 12-months intensive course that is designed specifically for graduates who are interested in pursuing studies that combine technological competence with design/artistic endeavour. It offers unique opportunities for designers, computer scientists and artists to exploit their potential in new areas (experience, interaction and participatory design, internet of things, social media and virtual reality, mobile and physical computing), across a wide range of activities, such as digital multimedia, software development, interactive installation, human-centred research and education.
