The Film Production Associate of Science Degree provides a platform from which to launch a further study of film production as well as necessary industry skills, processes, and practices to work on a film crew, produce an independent film, create and run a small film/video business and monetize video in the many social media outlets available today.

The curriculum is rooted in a strong foundation of basic drawing and design skills, with classroom exercises providing a practical and theoretical experience. Students develop strong skills and technical knowledge using various software programs, and experience with digital cameras, downloading images, scanning, printers, and digital prepress considerations.

Film & Digital Media Arts @Northern provides students the opportunity to make films, write screenplays, do sound design and photography, and digital images for print, web, and video. Students gain hands-on experience in professional production environments learning teamwork and work ethic. Students explore television, narrative, and documentary filmmaking with an emphasis on personal expression.

The Film Production Technology Associate in Science (A.S.) degree at Valencia College is a two-year program that prepares you to go directly into a specialized career in the film industry. Nationally recognized for making students employable, the program provides training for entry-level positions in six major areas of film production: gripping, electrical-lighting, editing, sound, camera and set construction. All classes are hands-on and are taught by professional filmmakers who use their connections to help students find work on film crews, learning alongside professionals on actual film sets. Valencia film students have had a hand in 47 feature films in the last two decades. Each year, Valencia’s Annual Film Celebration showcases the feature-length films that Valencia’s film production students worked on, as well as student-made short films.

Students enrolled in the Broadcasting Production Technology curriculum will develop professional skills in radio, television, audio, video, and related applications. Training will emphasize speech, scriptwriting, production planning, editing, and post-production. Students will also study the development of the broadcasting industry, sales, ethics, law, marketing, and management. Hands-on training and teamwork approaches are essential to the instructional process. Upon successful completion, students are prepared to enter broadcasting, production, and related industries in a variety of occupations.

The Interpreter Education curriculum prepares individuals to work as entry-level Sign Language Interpreters who will provide communication access in the interview and interactive settings. Besides, this curriculum provides in-service training for working interpreters who want to upgrade their skills.

The Digital & Interactive Media Production, AS program is designed to equip students with skills that prepare them for entry-level positions in media, multimedia, editing, producing, and related professions, embracing excellence and diversity. We focus on broad, transferable skills, and stress understanding and demonstration of the following elements of the media production industry: audience analysis and estimation, media literacy, interpersonal and business communications, employability skills.

The Graphic Communications degree program is devised to provide students with essential skills and knowledge to enter the exciting graphic arts field. Designers must possess a strong sense of creativity, aesthetics, colour and detail, as well as a sense of balance, proportion, and professional design.

Students completing the program will gain cross-platform skills and a complete understanding of the production pipeline (workflow process), including digital video production, interactive presentations, and media for multiple formats/devices and web content.

The Digital Media and Design A.S. prepares students to become digital content creators in a world that are constantly being shaped by technology. You’ll study digital art, animation, motion graphics, drawing/design theories, digital photography, video production, and more in our program.

The Integrated Media: Photography program balances personal artistic development with an intensive focus on technical skills and building commercially-viable sensibilities. Students explore contemporary photographic applications of digital technology: composition, portraiture, digital workflow and media management, studio and location lighting, DSLR video applications, and freelance business practices.

Northampton's Media Production program is a highly creative course of study that allows you to explore your potential in communicating ideas through the use of electronic and digital media.

This program gives students a strong foundation in the fundamentals of artistic design, digital content creation, and portfolio development. The industries that employ graphic designers include specialized design services, publishing, advertising, public relations, and related service industries.

This curriculum provides an in-depth study of professional photographic practices through a two-year sequence in digital photography. Throughout the program, the emphasis is placed on individual creative growth through a combination of general education, visual art, and career preparation.

Students will learn and build an understanding of marketing in a digital environment. They will explore the unique requirements for communicating business messages to consumers via social media and other online branding platforms. Students will learn how to apply graphics principles in a digital environment using appropriate tools.
