Students at ISSOS who choose our journalism summer course will be taught to sharpen their research and writing skills and debate social, political and ethical issues. These skills have wide-ranging applications and will stand students in good stead during their education and beyond.

In this course, students learn how to communicate clearly and persuasively. Course objectives include learning how to inspire action through compelling, high-impact communications by taking a point of view and supporting it with logic and evidence, generating insights with meaningful conclusions and recommendations, and understanding and applying the principles of logical reasoning to organize information and lead an audience to action.

Introduces students to key aesthetic aspects of film. Students study a variety of historical and contemporary examples of fiction and nonfiction films that illustrate the expressive possibilities of image and sound. Students learn to analyze, explain, and write about these formal elements.

Traces the development, surveys the literature, and explores the impact of media--whether traditional, interactive, social, or mobile--examining conceptual, theoretical, and practical aspects of today's global media environment. Reviews the factors that have shaped the nature of contemporary media, including their content, uses, functions, and audiences.

This course is designed to help you understand how marketing has (and has not) changed due to the rise of social media and changes in various underlying contextual factors, such as dramatically increased speed of information dissemination across consumers and brands.

Students learn a framework for decision-making in the real estate investment and finance fields. Specifically designed to offer students interested in real estate careers a foundation upon which to build.

Or will these rapid technological changes just fade into history as just another phase of cinema? This course will explore these big questions in the context of a hands-on film production class.

An introduction to the art and craft of storytelling through the moving image. Particular emphasis is given to writing short scripts. Topics covered include character development and narrative structure as it applies to shorts, features, and episodic television.

A practical approach to the art of public speaking. Emphasis is on developing skills in speech types including impromptu, personal experience, interviewing, demonstration, persuasive, and special occasions. Materials include videotape, texts of famous speeches, and a final dinner program of speeches. Students evaluate presentations by others. $55 materials fee. This is the introductory prerequisite course in the computer graphics sequence which introduces students to the technical concepts behind creating synthetic computer-generated images. This is the first course in the computer graphics sequence at Stanford.
