This program prepares individuals to function as simultaneous and consecutive interpreters as well as translators of American Sign Language (ASL) and other signing systems employed to assist deaf and hard-of-hearing people, both voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice interpretation. Upon successful completion of Associate in Science in Mt. San Antonio College’s Film, Television, and Electronic Media for Transfer degree requirements, the student will have demonstrated an understanding of coursework and foundational training in all stages of television and film production, including the historical, business and legal underpinnings of the industry; writing for the screen; visual and aural aesthetics; live and pre-recorded television and film production techniques; and post-production aesthetics and techniques.

This program focuses on the principles and techniques of communicating information, ideas and emotion through digital and film photography. The goal is to prepare individuals for careers in photographic and hotographyrelated fields. This includes instruction in: camera operation and maintenance, use and maintenance of all photographically-related equipment, selection of camera equipment, digital and film media, printing media, film developing, light and composition, color and special effects, photography as art, the history of photography, and the use of computer applications to refine and organize photographic images.

The program prepares individuals to communicate information, entertainment, and ideas through film, television, and video. This includes practical, hands-on instruction in how to plan and produce a variety of genres in film, television, and video; crew responsibilities and production techniques for film, television, video, and audio; equipment operation, including film and video cameras, editing equipment, switchers, character generators, lighting instruments, and microphones; techniques for making specific types of film, television and video programming; use of digital technology and computer applications to record, edit or enhance images, audio, graphics or effects; and how to manage film and video operations.

This program prepares students for a wide variety of careers in graphic design and digital media production. This includes instruction in graphic design, typography, digital illustration, photo manipulation, web design, animation, motion graphics, advertising design, entertainment graphics, and production art, using the latest equipment and software available. Classes are structured to give strong academic and hands-on experience for entry into the graphic design and digital media industry.

Our photography program is an intensive two-year study of visual communications. You’ll learn the fundamentals of lighting, composition, and visual storytelling; practice your artistic and technical skills in studios and technology labs; and explore current trends and career opportunities in photography and digital media production.

Students will work with the same hardware and software that industry pros use, including Apple iMacs; Intel-based PCs; design software, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat, and packaging software including Arden Impact. This will prepare students to work as entry-level designers or on their own as freelance designers.

Students who choose the Journalism/Mass Communications focus to develop the skills necessary to navigate the new world of convergent media. Students learn to gather and evaluate the credibility of information, compose original content for multiple communications mediums, identify legal and ethical considerations related to mass media professions, and apply those standards to the creation, production, and distribution of messages.
