Our MFA program in Drawing provides you with a supportive environment in which you may address contemporary subject matter via historical drawing traditions. The core of Laguna College of Art + Design’s MFA program in Drawing is built on the values of time-honored skills informed by contemporary theory and designed to help you realize the ideas possible through representational modes of painting and drawing. Our curriculum recognizes that there are particularly technical, ideational, and formal issues related to representation that require you to undergo specialized study at the graduate level, and we strive to meet these demands with a faculty and a curriculum tailored to your needs.

Drawing - Advanced

The Minor in Drawing builds a platform from observational drawing issues and drawing acuity grounded in the depiction of what is seen and observed. Students will expand drawing to conceptually developed ways to see, process, make marks and use materials to expand the role of drawing, what is perceived, conveyed and understood while exploring its role in visual culture and communication.

Drawing is an essential part of every art and design specialism, as well for those who wish to work in the creative industries, and is at the heart of what we do here at AUB.

As a student in Fredonia’s Drawing & Painting program, you will develop skills to succeed in the ever-changing contemporary art world. You will explore traditional and contemporary painting approaches and theories while also investigating multicultural and gender influences on contemporary society and art. You will participate in the practices necessary to succeed in careers related to the visual arts. World-renowned faculty will instill a strong work ethic and help you develop your own personal vision through drawing and painting and the incorporation of other disciplinary interests.

Build from a common studio arts and art history foundation, and go on to pursue independent, self-generated upper-level studio work. You'll investigate a wide range of traditional and experimental approaches and areas of study, and explore a variety of aesthetic ideas and theories. Drawing and painting involve different studio skills and approaches, but are closely interrelated areas of the visual arts. Students in this concentration begin their studies by completing the Foundation requirements then move on to the intermediate and advanced curriculum, designed to foster a disciplined and technically informed approach to independent, self-generated upper-level studio work and investigation of a wide range of traditional and experimental approaches and areas of study.

The drawing minor empowers students to continue developing their understanding and skills with drawing through individualized, responsive and inter-disciplinary pathways.

Figure drawing provides an introduction to basic knowledge of human proportion, anatomy, movement and composition. The main goal of the course is to provide students with knowledge of, and practice in, drawing based on principles of linear construction. The understanding of linear construction prepares the students for more complex problems in Figure drawing 2 and 3. The course consists of lectures and practical excersises with guidance.

Through drawing exercises with guidance and lectures, the goal is to develop observational skills and advanced problem solving in drawing. The student should learn how to apply knowledge from drawing classes to work in animation and other artistic fiields. For english speaking exchange students: Admission for exchange students is based exclusively on portfolio assessment. All exchange students must submit a link to their online portfolio, together with the application documents.

Advanced Life Drawing this is an advanced course in life drawing. Students apply the principles, elements and practices of representational drawing using black and white, wet and dry media to render the human form emphasizing its musculature.

Our MA Drawing programme enables you to examine, interrogate and reflect upon the nature and role of drawing as practice. We provide a critically engaged and supportive studio environment in which you can develop and extend your use of drawing, encouraging you to take risks with your own practice, and to experiment with and critically reflect upon drawing practice, using current research.

Observe the world through drawing. Explore composition and layout, expressive mark-making, perspective, and basic value/texture drawing techniques. Gain the confidence and skill required to accurately depict subject matter in dimensional space and discover an inspiring range of ways to use pencil, ink, and watercolour. Visual arts are a necessary and vital part of contemporary society. The Louisiana Christian University Art Department trains students to have a positive Christian impact on society by providing a serious study of the visual arts in all its forms and contexts so that they may more fully dialogue with the professional art world. A series of studio, lecture, and seminar courses provide a learning environment for students which nurtures their technical and philosophical skills in a distinctively Christian and academically rigorous environment. These studies develop the aptitudes within students which prepare them for either graduate school or entering directly into the art and design marketplace.
