Drawing - Advanced

The Minor in Drawing builds a platform from observational drawing issues and drawing acuity grounded in the depiction of what is seen and observed. Students will expand drawing to conceptually developed ways to see, process, make marks and use materials to expand the role of drawing, what is perceived, conveyed and understood while exploring its role in visual culture and communication.

Build from a common studio arts and art history foundation, and go on to pursue independent, self-generated upper-level studio work. You'll investigate a wide range of traditional and experimental approaches and areas of study, and explore a variety of aesthetic ideas and theories. Drawing and painting involve different studio skills and approaches, but are closely interrelated areas of the visual arts. Students in this concentration begin their studies by completing the Foundation requirements then move on to the intermediate and advanced curriculum, designed to foster a disciplined and technically informed approach to independent, self-generated upper-level studio work and investigation of a wide range of traditional and experimental approaches and areas of study.

Figure drawing provides an introduction to basic knowledge of human proportion, anatomy, movement and composition. The main goal of the course is to provide students with knowledge of, and practice in, drawing based on principles of linear construction. The understanding of linear construction prepares the students for more complex problems in Figure drawing 2 and 3. The course consists of lectures and practical excersises with guidance.

Through drawing exercises with guidance and lectures, the goal is to develop observational skills and advanced problem solving in drawing. The student should learn how to apply knowledge from drawing classes to work in animation and other artistic fiields. For english speaking exchange students: Admission for exchange students is based exclusively on portfolio assessment. All exchange students must submit a link to their online portfolio, together with the application documents.

Observe the world through drawing. Explore composition and layout, expressive mark-making, perspective, and basic value/texture drawing techniques. Gain the confidence and skill required to accurately depict subject matter in dimensional space and discover an inspiring range of ways to use pencil, ink, and watercolour. This fascinating workshop is available any Monday until July 2024 for school groups. Taught by renowned artist Mik Godley, sessions aim to focus on improving the skills of life drawing, completing exercises to practice specific skills. All materials and equipment will be provided. FREE minibus parking is available on request.

In this course, students will learn everything necessary to enter the world of digital illustration, from the basic concepts of drawing and digital tools to the advanced processes of digital painting design.

This art and design course will provide you with the opportunity to actively participate in structured sessions to develop understanding and confidence with the production of visual imagery. This practical course will introduce you to a range of approaches, methods, and techniques in painting and drawing through various projects.

The Florence Academy of Russian Art offers you to take its One-Year Course, which can be extended then into the full Three-Year Course. During one academic year, you will go through a step by step program, which will take you from basic to complex. You will be starting by studying simple geometric figures and then finish the year by drawing and painting portraits. This course is a fundamental educational base for any artist who wants to master the skills of academic drawing and painting.
