Northern's Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with studio art emphasis is designed to take you and your art to a professional level. The BFA in Studio Arts degree program prepares you to excel in highly technical areas of art, including: Painting, Drawing, Sculpture. It's the perfect gateway to attending graduate school for a master of fine arts degree (MFA) or doctorate in art education degree. An emphasis on Fine Arts provides the student with an understanding of the practices and theories of traditional and contemporary two- and three-dimensional studio arts and an introduction to the history of Western art.

Designed for students whose creative practice is predominately rooted in drawing. Candidates for the program will be seeking new contexts and experiences for developing established/existing practices. Drawing is understood as more than a support or preparation for other disciplines: it is considered the work.

The Certificate of Achievement in Drawing provides students with a comprehensive set of drawing skills that are critical to pursuing a wide array of career paths. This certificate will help you build the drawing competency necessary to pursue careers in fields including: Art, Illustration, Animation, Fashion, Gaming Design, Product Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Architecture and Landscape Design.

The M.F.A. in Art offers concentrations in ceramics, drawing and painting, new media, photography, and sculpture. An M.F.A. in Art with a concentration in graphic design is jointly supported by the Department of Graphic Design in the Stuckeman School and the School of Visual Arts.

The rigorous path to artistic excellence must assimilate and build upon knowledge of the achievements already attained throughout art history. Combining direct observation from the great art of the past with knowledge of historical drawing skills will revitalize students´ creativity.

This two-week course is structured as a painting and artistic drawing atelier, where, under the guidance of professional artists, you will expand on your core drawing and painting skills and experiment more with colors.

Learn the skills to bring your imagination to life in OCAD University’s new Experimental Animation program. OCAD U has a long history of graduating successful animators in art and film including George Dunning who directed The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine and Richard Williams who was animation director for Who Framed Roger Rabbit. More recently, alumni include computer animator Trudy Elmore and emerging VR artist Jawa El Khash. Shary Boyle, who represented Canada at the Venice Biennale, has achieved great success with her mesmerizing performances using hand-animated imagery. In this program, you’ll develop a personal artistic vision and push the boundaries of animation as a contemporary art form. You’ll mix traditional and digital media using 2D, 3D, stop-motion, digital compositing and augmented/virtual reality. At the end of this four-year program, you will earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
