6 Dance Associate Programs

The Associate in Arts in Dance degree will prepare students for transfer into a four-year dance major, minor or performing arts program. It can also prepare students for further study in other dance-related fields including performing, dance teaching, choreography, dance science, dance therapy, dance history or dance criticism. Upon completion of the degree students should be proficient in three or more dance technique styles at the intermediate level, have a firm understanding of dance appreciation and music theory, and be competent in creating and performing dance.

The dance program enables students to develop technical, aesthetic and artistic skills required to pursue a four-year dance degree. Courses cover major topics of dance such as ballet, modern dance, jazz dance, history, and music.

The Associate Degree has a strong focus on and commitment to excellence in the practice of dance. The goal is to develop highly skilled, disciplined, knowledgeable, and versatile dance artists, in an atmosphere which supports and encourages them, as they strive to reach that technical, creative, and scholarly excellence.

The Associate of Occupational Studies Degree in Dance Theatre Program embraces interdisciplinary artistic development with an emphasis on communication and storytelling through kinetic expression. Coursework builds on classical foundations in Ballet, Jazz, and Modern with explorations of contemporary, commercial, and cultural styles such as Hip-Hop, Contemporary, Jazz/Funk, Broadway, Heels, Contemporary, Latin Fusion, and others.

The Dance program prepares the serious dance student for university transfer and provides dance training and enrichment for both the beginning and the advanced dancer. The program offers a comprehensive curriculum with a broad range of dance courses to nurture versatile dance artists. The Dance Department encourages students to think independently, to value creative thought and diversity, and to be responsible global citizens.
