The Barnard College Department of Dance, located in a world dance capital, offers an interdisciplinary program that integrates the study of dance within a liberal arts setting of intellectual and creative exploration. The major builds upon studio courses, the Department's productions at Miller Theater, New York Live Arts and other venues, as well as a rich array of dance studies courses, allowing students' creative work to develop in dialogue with critical inquiry into the history, culture, theory and forms of western and non-western performance, typically enhanced by study in other disciplines.

The dance performance emphasis is designed to prepare students for careers in dance as professional performing artists. Students in this program focus on technique, performance, and choreography while participating in some pedagogical training as well.

The Dance Program offers a rich array of dance experiences for the many and diverse students who choose Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges. It welcomes the newcomer as well as supports the continuing progress of trained dancers. The program includes a range of technique courses in different styles and genres of dance, multiple performance ensembles, courses in composition and choreography, and dance studies courses that introduce students to dance as an exciting area of research and inquiry.

Dance courses at Sewanee will provide you with an inclusive learning environment, accommodating all levels and backgrounds of experienced dancers seeking to develop their skills further to those discovering dance for the first time. Sewanee offers ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance styles with accompanying courses that focus on composition and production. All classes take place in the professionally equipped dance studio in the Tennessee Williams Center.

This course is a mixture of technical exercises and sequences given by the tutor and room for improvisation and self-expression. You will also develop your dance compositional skills by using German Tanztheater's tools, as this course is regularly performing in Morley College's Dance events.

Dance activities at Carleton are designed to give students of all levels opportunities for active participation in three basic areas: movement practice, choreography and analysis, and performance. The broadest goal of these offerings is to increase understanding of the art of dance as a contribution to a liberal arts education, and to connect theory and practice through embodied learning.

The Simon's Rock dance program encourages each student to understand movement as a form of personal expression, a kinesthetic experience, a cultural and historical phenomenon, and as a subject of aesthetic analysis. From their first semester, regardless of previous dance experience, students not only focus on dance technique, but begin a guided study of the creative process through choreography and performance. The concentration is designed for students interested in exploring and analyzing dance from any of the following perspectives: as a creative performance art, a reflection of a culture and a historical period, as an exploration of physical movement, or in relation to and in combination with other arts

Solid foundations in modern, ballet, composition and repertory are designed to build strong technique and a sense of artistic expression, while exposure to non-Western dance forms encourages students to better understand other cultures through their performance traditions.

The Smith College Department of Dance gives students a broad view of dance in preparation for professional performance careers, as a training ground for choreographers, or to prepare for study in graduate dance programs. Students who do not intend to pursue dance professionally are also welcome. In both the undergraduate and graduate programs, the faculty is dedicated to fostering each student’s unique talents as the student explores creative dance experiences. A minor in dance provides students with a range of experiences that encourage creative exploration and critical thinking. Minors are encouraged to enhance their study at summer dance festivals and intensive workshops. Dance classes are often enhanced by attendance at and participation in the dance performances and opportunities offered in the college and local communities. Dance minors should expect to actively participate in these co-curricular activities.
