About this program

Masters in International Relations

  • Location: Students are actively learning and enjoying workshops, seminars, and internship opportunities with experts in the field in nearby The Hague, city of Peace and Justice. The Hague is a hub of international organizations, criminal courts, tribunals, IGOs, and European entities.
  • Faculty: Given our location, this means our faculty are active outside of the classroom in the role of diplomats, international lawyers, NGO founders, and much more. Faculty are actively working outside of their academic positions. 
  • Peers: Students are part-time and full-time from around the world, and at different stages of life (recent bachelor student, mid-career diplomat, late-career change of career professional) 
  • Certificate is Optional : International and Nongovernmental Organizations

Preparing student to enter the INGO field by developing skills in project management, grant writing, fundraising, negotiations and other key areas essential to the work in this field.

Admission requirements

INSTRUCTIONS

  3. Invitation for Department Interview (Virtual) 
  4. Receive your admissions decision by e-mail
  5. Confirm your enrollment with a deposit
  6. Immigration team begins collecting your paperwork and submitting your immigration application.
  • Early Decision Applicants: Students joining in the Fall must apply by March 1st of the previous year.
  • Transfer Applicants: Graduate students can transfer a maximum of 12 credits if approved. 
  • Visa Applicants: Apply 3 months before start of program. 
  • Deposit amounts vary depending on the applicants immigration category: EUR 250 (EU) | EUR 1000 (RP Required) | EUR 8000 (Visa Required)

Program Curriculum:

The 36 credit hours (12 courses) required for the MA in International Relations degree must include the following courses for a major in international relations:

  • Introduction to International Relations
  • Research Methods and Perspectives
  • Capstone in International Relations or Thesis* and University Thesis Requirement

Two courses from the Comparative Politics Cluster (6 hours) :

  • Comparative Politics
  • Politics of Development
  • Comparative Foreign Policy
  • Area Studies
  • Topics in Comparative Politics
  • Middle East Area Studies
  • Western European Area Studies
  • Asian Area Studies
  • African Area Studies
  • South and Central Asian Area Studies
  • Central and Eastern European Area Studies
  • Latin American Area Studies

Four courses from the International Politics Cluster (12 hours)

  • International Political Economy
  • Theories of International Relations
  • International Law
  • International Organizations
  • War and Diplomacy
  • U.S. Foreign Policy
  • International Security
  • Humanitarian Issues in International Politics
  • Globalization
  • Issues in International Politics
  • International Law and Politics of Outer Space Terrorism in World Politics

Three International Relations Elective Courses (9 hours)Any additional courses from the two clusters above, or any of the following:

  • Field Work
  • Professional Seminars
  • Non-Thesis Readings/Research
  • Advanced Research Methods*
  • Internship
  • Any other graduate elective course
