Masters in Theology and Religious Studies (RM)

The Faculty of Theology’s Master of Arts in Theology & Religious Studies (research), is a 2-year research Master’s degree of 120 credits. The program consists of in-depth training in specialized research and allows advanced studies in a wide range of topics and disciplines in theology and religious studies.

The specialized research training is supervised by leading scholars from the Faculty. The program of the research Master is designed to prepare you for a career involving theological research, especially doctoral studies, but also for positions in society or in religious organizations in which academic excellence is a prerequisite. The degree is comparable to the M.Phil. in other countries.

Theology and Religious Studies Curriculum

Admission requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Studies or relevant field from an accredited research university including at least three full years of academic study amounting a minimum of 180 ECTS or equivalent.
  • Motivation, background and personality (motivation letter, CV and personal reference).
  • GPA of at least 7.5 out of 10 in the Dutch education system.
  • Proof of sufficient proficiency in English.
