Program description

Prep to Year 6.

Focusing on the Primary years (from Prep to Year 6), this degree offers you the opportunity to gain the unique knowledge and expertise needed to educate young learners.

Not sure if you want to study online or on campus? Flexible study options enable you to choose how and when you study, depending on your needs: online, on-campus or a combination of both.

You will be able to complete your professional experience in Australian schools (Prep- Year 6) and have the opportunity to experience working as an educator in a variety of locations including rural placements and with students who study via the School of Distance Education. These experiences will help to make you a well-rounded and highly employable graduate.

Professional accreditation

Graduates of the Bachelor of Education (Primary) are eligible to apply for registration as a teacher through theQueensland College of Teachers. For registration in Queensland, both domestic and international students must have at least 50% of supervisedprofessional experiencein Australian Schools. Live interstate or overseas? You will need to investigate registration eligibility on an individual basis.

In addition to completing all requirements for the degree, students need to pass theLiteracy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education(LANTITE) prior to graduation. It's recommended that students pass the LANTITE before the successful completion of 16 courses. Please register for the LANTITE test through theAustralian Council for Educational Research(ACER) website.

Since 2018 another requirement is the completion of aTeacher Performance Assessment(TPA) in the final supervised placement. 

Career outcomes

Graduates of the Bachelor Education (Primary) will have the skills and knowledge required to teach students in Years Prep to 6. Not sure if you want to work in the country or the city? In Australia or overseas? Teaching offers a lot of flexibility and diversity, with graduates also working as English language teachers and in community settings.
