Located six miles from a vibrant capital city, the University of Richmond provides a collaborative learning and research environment unlike any other, offering 3,000 undergraduates from 70+ countries an extraordinary combination of the liberal arts and sciences with a top-ranked business school and the country’s first undergraduate school of leadership studies. Richmond guarantees funding up to $4,000 to pursue a summer internship or research project. Within a year of graduation, 24 percent of students are enrolled in graduate school, and of those seeking employment, 96 percent landed a job. Programs
Scholarships & funding
All first-year, degree-seeking applicants are eligible to be considered for merit scholarships through the University of Richmond's robust merit-based aid programs.
The University's most prestigious and competitive academic award, the Richmond Scholars Program, is equal to full tuition, room and meals, (in addition to other program benefits) and is given to 25 incoming students. All applicants for first-year admission are automatically considered for this scholarship, provided that they submit a complete admission application by December 1. No separate application is required.
The University of Richmond awards merit-based Presidential Scholarships, equal to one-third tuition, to students who have achieved outstanding high school records in a highly rigorous curriculum. Presidential Scholarships are awarded to only 10% of incoming students. All applicants who apply for first-year admission are automatically considered. No separate application is required.
Various other merit scholarships are awarded to incoming first-year students. Requirements vary, so be sure to review the selection criteria for any additional materials or deadlines if you wish to be considered.

Student services & facilities
International Education: Students from nearly 80 countries come to Richmond to study for a semester or a full four years. They actively engage in campus life and enrich classroom learning on a daily basis. The Office of International Education provides additional support for these international degree-seeking students, exchange students, and scholars at UR — a talented cohort who brings diverse perspectives to the student body.
Well-Being Center: At Richmond, we take a holistic approach to wellness. We work to ensure that every student has easy access to well-being resources that support learning, success, and a well-balanced life. Our Well-Being Center is a comprehensive and integrated facility that serves as a one-stop-shop for all on-campus health and wellness services.
Career Services: The Office of Career Services provides students with a comprehensive approach to career development by facilitating their education, preparation, and connection to alumni and employers, all of which empowers them to achieve their professional goals.
Office of Multicultural Affairs: The mission of the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) is to create a welcoming environment that supports the academic and personal development of multicultural students at the University of Richmond and engages students at large in building an inclusive campus community. The goal of OMA is to provide multicultural students with a space of their own equipped with professionals dedicated to enhancing their UR experience.
Student lifestyle
At Richmond, there is no shortage of opportunity to get involved. Our Center for Student Involvement houses over 175 student-run clubs and organizations; from academic and pre-professional groups, to cultural organizations and sport clubs, you’re bound to find your niche. Service-focused Spiders frequent our Bonner Center for Civic Engagement – the hub for getting involved in the greater Richmond community. Each week, the CCE sends more than 400 students out into the Richmond region to work with local schools, government organizations, and nonprofits in meaningful, long-lasting ways.
Richmond — or "RVA" as locals call it — has a little bit of everything. From the James River (the centerpiece of Richmond’s thriving outdoor scene) to a vibrant arts culture and over 700 restaurants – there’s always something to explore. As the capital of Virginia, Richmond is at the center of the state’s business and government activity. For Spiders, that means a hotbed of internship, research, and work opportunities are just a free and easy shuttle ride away. Not to mention, Richmond’s location in the heart of Virginia provides easy access to all that the region has to offer. Take a two-hour drive in any direction and you can dip your toes in the Atlantic Ocean, wind through the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Appalachian Trail, or immerse in cultural and internship opportunities in Washington, D.C.
Accommodation
First-year residence halls typically have a traditional floor plan of double rooms and hall bathrooms. All first-year residence halls are designated as co-ed with students housed by gender within each hall. Additionally, first and second-year students may participate in one of our living and learning programs. Upperclassmen have housing options within our residence halls, the University Forest Apartments, Gateway Village Apartments. Some halls feature traditional floor plans, while others are suite style.
