About this program

Germanic Studies BA (Specialisation German as Ethnic Minority Language)

The aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge on the one hand in the core areas of German studies and on the other hand on the German-speaking minority in Hungary. The students acquire the German language at level C1 of the common European reference framework, they are also able to understand and produce general political, economic, linguistic and literary texts. Students specializing in German as a minority language also get to know the history, language usage, folk culture and literature of the Hungarian Germans. A completed BA degree opens up numerous career opportunities in various areas, such as in national and international companies, and entitles you to access a master’s degree. During the BA course, students develop knowledge and skills in the following areas: German language skills at level C1; Basic linguistic knowledge, knowledge of the grammar of contemporary German; Literature of the German-speaking countries; Regional studies of the German-speaking countries; Basic knowledge of culture and media studies; History, language, literature and culture of the Hungarian Germans; Presentation techniques. Admission requirements

The applicant has to submit the following documents by uploading them to the online application portal of the University of Pécs:

  • Certified and translated (if originals are not in English) copy of school transcripts showing satisfactory completion of senior high school.
  • Europass CV in English
  • Motivation letter (introduction plus field of interest, etc.) in 3000 to 3500 characters.
  • Copy of valid passport or national ID
  • Medical certificate, (please fill the document and attach the serologic test results)
    • vaccination card (showing that you are immunized against HEP B)
    • HEP A / B / C test *
    • HIV test*
    • Chest X-ray: Please attach the chest's X-ray result (not the film!) In English / Hungarian! (not older than 3 months)
  • Transfer receipt of the EUR 140 application fee
  • Official copy of the following language exam certificates:
    • TOEFL (iBT internet-based): 66 points
    • IELTS: Overall Band Score: 5.5
    • Cambridge ESOL: B2 level
    • TELC: B2 level
    • ECL: B2 level
  • Entrance Exam (personally or via Skype)
