Program description

Master's Degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics

The Program provides a state-of-the-art knowledge and training in biomolecular sciences, including the most recent advances in genomics and proteomics of human and animal organisms, in the study of biomolecular structures and their connection to function, and in the genetic manipulation of bacteria, human and animal cells and seed plants. Specific courses are: Advanced Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Cellular Biochemistry, Developmental Biology, Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Human Molecular Genetics, Methods in Biochemistry, Microbial Genetics, Molecular Microbiology, Molecular Pharmacology, Structural Biology and Pharmacology. The following courses will also be offered as optional: Advanced Microscopy, Molecular Entomology, Molecular Genetics, Immunology. Lectures are entirely taught in English by Italian Professors from the University of Pavia and Visiting Professors from international institutions. The Master Programme in Molecular Biology and Genetics has a strong experimental component. Students are expected to carry out a scientific investigation under the supervision of a faculty member, they will be associated to a research group and actively participate in one of the group’s research projects. The experimental work carried out during the two year-Degree must result into a Dissertation that represents an essential component of the Course Program.

Admission requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Biology, Biotechnology or related life science courses.
  • Strong background in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology and Molecular Biology.
  • Knowledge of English corresponding to at least B1 level of the Common European Framework (CEF).

Tuition fees

Tuition fees at UNIPAVIA vary based on the student’s family income and country of origin and range from 156 to 3985 Euro.
Scholarship, fees reduction and other benefits are offered to students on merit criteria and family income by Edisu, a dedicated government agency.


Upon completion of this program, graduates will be awarded a Master's Degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics.
