Program description

Arts and Social Sciences

Our Liberal Arts MA course gives you maximum flexibility to develop a program of study that reflects your personal intellectual and creative interests.

Our course represents the finest Scottish liberal arts tradition of extensive inquiry over a wide range of subjects and disciplines, challenging you to find creative solutions to problems through active learning.

We give you freedom throughout your entire degree to study several different subjects without the requirement to specialize in only one or two. However, you also have the freedom to focus on one subject (a major) if you want to, while also gaining insights from a wide range of other subjects all the way through your course.

Admission requirements

The minimum requirement for the majority of our taught postgraduate programs is an undergraduate Honours degree.

However for many of our Masters programs you need to have at least an Upper Second Class (2:1) Honours degree, and some may specify the relevant subject they are looking for.

You can find the specific entry requirements for your chosen Masters program on the course page. This includes details of any specific degree subjects or classification.

All courses at the University of Dundee are taught in English. If your first language is not English you must typically have an IELTS score of at least 6.5 overall (or equivalent) with a 6.0 in Writing and Speaking and a minimum of 5.5 in the other two components in order to be successful in your academic studies.

Additionally, if you require a visa to study in the UK, then you must also meet the level of English required by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). The IELTS standard of English language required for each Masters course is shown on the individual course page.
