Program description

Business Management

The Business Management program offers you the opportunity to build job skills and knowledge or to prepare for graduate studies through an extensive introduction to U.S. business practices. In the second quarter, you choose to specialize in one of the following areas: Finance, Marketing, or Leadership. To complement your classroom experience, Business Management incorporates a 120-hour internship into the program.

Admission requirements

The minimum requirements to be accepted in the program are listed below. We carefully review the background and qualifications of each applicant to ensure that those admitted will have a successful experience.

2019/2020 Language Proficiency Requirement:

  • TOEFL paper-based: 550
  • TOEFL iBT: 80
  • TOEIC: 760
  • IELTS: 6.5
  • Cambridge Advanced or Proficiency Exams: Pass
  • PTE: 64
  • 2019 ELI core level: 109
  • 2020 ELI core level: 108

Additional Admission Requirements:

  • Your official university transcripts in English indicating a strong academic history; include a grading key.
    • You must have successfully completed a bachelor’s degree.
    • If you have pursued graduate-level coursework or degrees, you must include those transcripts as well.
  • One to two years of full-time, post-university, professional work experience.
  • No degree required if applicant has four years of full-time work experience.
  • Dated and signed letter of recommendation on academic or company letterhead from a professor or supervisor attesting to your experience and ability to excel in the relevant field
  • Résumé or curriculum vitae (CV)
  • A one-page statement explaining your qualifications and motivation for taking the program
  • A spoken language phone screening may be required. This can be conducted in person if you are already in San Diego; otherwise, it will be done by phone or Skype.

Program content

1st Quarter (15-20 units)

  • Business Law for Managers (not offered in 2020)
  • Elements of Marketing
  • Financial Accounting for Non-Accountants (FAFNA)
  • Business Economics
  • Organizational Behavior
  • Directed Studies–Internship Preparation

2nd Quarter (12-15 units)

In addition to a compulsory Business Decision-Making course and 120 hours of internship experience, students will take three required courses in their area of specialization:

Finance:

  • Finance Management
  • Financial Statement Analysis
  • International Finance and Capital Markets

Marketing:

  • Product Management, Branding, and Positioning
  • Market Research and Analytics
  • Digital Marketing

Leadership:

  • Business Communication Skills
  • Presentation Skills
  • Managing for Maximum Performance

3rd Quarter (12-15 units)

Advanced Studies: If you successfully complete two quarters of Business Management, you can further develop your skills in an area of specialization and earn a Certificate of Completion in Advanced Studies.

  • Capstone project or class in area of specialization
  • One required course in area of specialization
  • In addition to required courses, students will have the opportunity to choose additional units from a list of business elective courses as determined by the business department.

Tuition fees

  • 2020 Two-Quarter Tuition: $12,000
  • 2020 Three-Quarter Tuition: $18,000
