Master in Mechanical Engineering - Energy, Air-conditioning and Refrigeration
The main objectives of the Master's program in Mechanical Engineering – Energy, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration are to deepen the knowledge on Mechanical Engineering subjects, energy profile, with special focus on heating ventilation and air conditioning of buildings, as well as industrial and commercial refrigeration. The students will improve their skills in a vast variety of subjects and will finish the program with the ability to:
- Solve problems on energy management, renewable energies, energetic and environmental sustainability and numerical modeling;
- Design air conditioning and refrigeration systems, integrating the most advanced technological developments, abiding the applicable standards and legislation, namely of the Energy Performance Certification of Buildings;
- Ensure the maintenance management of physical assets required by the functional needs, complexity and technological dimension of the facilities.
The course is also taught in Portuguese.
Admission requirements
a) Holders of a degree in Engineering
b) Holders of a foreign academic degree
c) Where duly justified, holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum vitae that is recognized as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies by the Scientific Councils, Technical-Scientific Councils, or Scientific Committee of the associated organizational units.

As we are a public university, no studentships are available for Bachelor, Master or PhD degrees, independently of the students nationality. Nevertheless, for the second academic year (thesis research) there is a possibility to apply for a studentship within research projects running in our science and technology centers. You can apply for a studentship while completing your first academic year of the Master but we cannot guarantee that there will be funding for all students for the second research year.
Tuition fees
The full tuition price per annum for local/EU students is 1100 EUR.
The price per annum for International/Non-EU students is 2000 EUR.
National applicants: 1100 Euros
International applicants*: 2000 Euros
Application fee: 50 Euros
Registration Fee and School Insurance: 175 Euros
Note: The tuition fee for this course can be paid in 10 installments, the first at registration and the rest in October, November, December, January, February, March, April, May and June.
*according to the Decree-Law nº36/2014, are considered international students the nationals of a state that is not a member of the European Union and that do not legally reside in Portugal for more than two years, uninterruptedly, on August 31 of the year in which they intend to enter higher education.
