The programme fosters an historical, cultural, theoretical, and analytical understanding of a wide range of musical repertoires, including Western art music, popular and vernacular musics, and non-Western traditions. This programme provides a comprehensive grounding in the core disciplinary strengths of historical musicology, music analysis and ethnomusicology. It also encourages inter-disciplinary study, by enabling students to take modules in all of these areas, whilst also facilitating specialisation.
