About this program

Computer Systems Technician - Networking

Computer Systems Technicians have the skills to plan, administer, configure and maintain individual and networked computer systems. Graduates are trained to provide technical support for computer users in a business environment. This program will appeal to students who are problem solvers with good analytical skills. Students must be highly organized with a strong interest in computers.

Admission requirements

OSSD with the majority of courses at the College (C), University (U), University/College (M) or Open (O) level plus:

  • Grade 12 Math (C) or (U).

Other regions (English proficiency test required)

  • High school diploma/graduation certificate and transcript or equivalent in original language and English translation.
  • English proficiency requirement:
  • TOEFL iBT 78 with no band lower than 20, or PBT score of 550, or CBT score of 213 / IELTS 6.0 with no band lower than 5.5, Duolingo score of 100.

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Analyze and resolve information technology problems through the application of systematic approaches and diagnostic tools.
  2. Support the implementation and administration of computer systems.
  3. Support the implementation and administration of networking solutions.
  4. Install, configure, troubleshoot, maintain, and upgrade components of computer systems.
  5. Install, configure, troubleshoot, maintain, and upgrade components of networks.
  6. Use a variety of scripting tools and languages to automate routine tasks.
  7. Follow, monitor, and document data storage procedures designed to ensure the integrity of information.
  8. Apply knowledge of security issues to the implementation of information technology solutions.
  9. Provide efficient and effective technical support to clients in a manner that promotes safe computing practices and reduces the risk of the issue recurring.
  10. Conform to workplace expectations found in information technology (IT) environments.
  11. Contribute to the successful completion of the project applying the project management principles in use.

Graduates will have good advancement potential and opportunities for entry-level positions including technical support analyst, IT consultant, and network technologist/administrator in a wide range of sectors including government, corporations and the public sector. Many graduates become self-employed or independent operators offering computer training, technical support and network administration.
