Environmental Engineering for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation

The Master Programme in Environmental Engineering for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation provides an advanced technical background for careers in environmental engineering, particularly in consultancy, planning, design and management of actions, structures and infrastructures for mitigation of and improvement in environment resilience to climate change effects.

Specific competences of graduates include:

  1. methods and techniques for the identification of climate change effects and monitoring/control of environmental compartments;
  2. policies and international guidelines to contrast climate change;
  3. modelling of climate systems and their interactions with anthropic systems;
  4. planning, design and implementation of measures and interventions to prevent and mitigate climate change impacts;
  5. management of natural disasters and water scarcity associated to climate change;
  6. management and protection of natural resources;
  7. solid waste management and materials/energy recovery from residues;
  8. design of actions and technologies for greenhouse gas emissions.

Admission requirements

The Master Programme in Environmental Engineering for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation welcomes students having a three-year (or four-year) Bachelor degree in science, applied science or engineering. A good knowledge of spoken and written English is required of all prospective students. A pre-application procedure is required as a first evaluation in view of admission. Students with a curriculum that satisfies minimum requirements on basic (Bachelor-degree) education in the technical and scientific domains related to environmental engineering will be pre-screened for admission. Students may also be interviewed remotely in view of the final pre-screening decision.

Minimum requirements for admission are as follows:

Minimum GPA: 70/100

Minimum English Language Requirements: Upper Intermediate (CEFR Level B2). The following test scores are accepted:

  • IELTS Academic 6.0 or higher
  • TOEFL IbT 80 or higher
  • Cambridge B2 First or higher
  • TOEIC Listening&Reading 720 or higher

Please note: the above language requirements may be waived for students holding a degree from an accredited institution where English is the main language of instruction.

Qualification

In relation to transversal skills, graduates in the Master's Degree course will acquire skills to:

  • clearly communicate and argue their conclusions, as well as the knowledge and scientific orientations underlying them, to specialist and non-specialist interlocutors;
  • manage relations with the plurality of subjects, specialists and non-specialists, involved in the problems of environmental protection, eco-compatible use of resources, environmental and territorial management and planning, soil protection and sustainable development;
  • know how to operate independently, but also work as a member of a group and relate to competent subjects in different disciplines;
  • coordinate a group, also of an interdisciplinary nature;

These skills are developed during the regular training activities provided and through various moments of discussion and comparison in group work and in the various occasions of meeting with representatives of the world of work (conferences, testimonials, guided tours, etc.). The verification of these transversal skills is carried out through the exams (which generally include both written and oral tests), the revision of the project documents produced by the students, in the discussion and correction of the exercises, as well as in collective presentations of specific activities developed in the context of the individual courses, constituting a stimulus to communicate in the various forms envisaged.
