Development and International Cooperation Sciences - Economics for Development

The interfaculty MSc programs in Development and International Cooperation provides students with thecompetences necessary to analyze institutional and cultural factors and to plan and manage cooperationinitiatives to aid developing countries.

The programs, which has been developed by the Faculties of Political Science, Sociology, Communications, and Humanities, provides students with interdisciplinary knowledge and the toolsnecessary to analyse and comprehend the context they will find in developing countries, as well as tomanage peace projects and international development cooperation programs.

The programs also provides students with advanced skills that will allow them to:

  • Design, develop, implement and direct integrated cooperation programss and development projects;
  • Monitor and assess projects and programss;
  • Use communication and information management tools

Admission requirements

To be admitted to the master’s degree programs in Development and International Cooperation Sciences, students must hold a degree belonging to the L-36 and L-37 classes and have at least a B-2 level in the L-LIN/12 (English language) scientific disciplinary sector.

Learning outcomes

The Master's Degree in Development and International Cooperation Sciences in the first year of the course offers advanced knowledge of the sociological, economic, political, historical and juridical disciplines and provides operational tools for the analysis and interpretation of the social, economic, legal and institutional forms that characterize developing countries and for the evaluation and management of international cooperation processes. It provides opportunities for specialization in specific areas of political and institutional, economic and financial, health and legal cooperation. In particularly, in the second year, provides a thorough knowledge of the methodologies used by multi and bilateral cooperation bodies for the development of cooperation programs and projects and for peace missions. Furthermore, with particular reference to the curriculum in English, it analyzes the issue of climate change and its impact on the natural ecosystem and, secondly, on the human and social one, as a useful analysis tool for the purposes of managing cooperation processes at international level. It also guarantees advanced skills necessary for: - the conception, drafting, implementation and management of integrated development cooperation programs and projects; - the application of the main monitoring and evaluation methods; - fluent use, in written and oral form, of English and a good knowledge of other languages of cultural mediation; - the use of information communication and management tools. The Master's Degree also guarantees an adequate and qualified level of further specialized training, highly characterizing, divided into two specialized areas: the first aimed at the acquisition of knowledge in the field of communication development and international political processes ("Socio-Political-Economic" path); the second, in English, characterized by a more international nature, with a specific focus on the international dynamics of development and innovation processes ("Economics for Development" path). The study plan also includes external activities, such as traineeships and internships, in central and local administrations, universities, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, study and research institutions operating in the field of international development cooperation.

Career opportunities

Due to the multidisciplinary nature of the program, graduates are suited for managerial and other high-responsibility positions in public administrations, national and international organizations, including NGOs, private companies operating in the fields of cooperation development, volunteering and services and organizations for social and cultural cooperation between countries. Graduates may also work as consultants and programs managers for organizations working in the field of human and social development, as well as capacity and institution building. They will also be able to operate in consulting and specialized programming activities, as well as access advanced training courses in the field of social sciences.
