Program description

War Studies

The PhD in War Studies is a residential program at RMC that normally requires five years to complete. Students will normally have to complete a two-year residency requirement to undertake course work and complete comprehensive examinations, followed by three years to research, write and defend the dissertation. The four areas of research are: International Relations, Defence Policy, Military History, and Intelligence Studies.

Doctoral candidates are required to show competence in one language other than their mother tongue (English or French). They must pass a language test before being permitted to write the field examinations, or they must show proof that the requirement has been met at the graduate level elsewhere.
