About this program

Languages, Literatures and Cultures

The Degree in Languages, Literatures and Cultures has monolingual and bilingual variants, allowing you to combine Portuguese with one of the foreign languages of the course (German, Spanish, French and English).

The student who intends to attend the Degree in Languages, Literatures and Cultures chooses a variant from among those available at the Department, having the support of professors to advise them in the choice of subjects and in the construction of their timetable.

Curricular Structure

Duration: 3 years/6 semesters.

The student must complete 180 credits. At the beginning of each semester, the student will be advised on the curricular units to be taken, most appropriate to his/her academic path.

Undergraduate students can also benefit from the different mobility programs in which NOVA FCSH participates, such as Erasmus+, Almeida Garrett, among others, and participate in research work within the research units that make up the Faculty.

Qualification

Learning Outcomes

  • Obtain methodological tools for research and analysis, in order to develop learning skills, critical choice, and reflection that allows an adequate application of acquired knowledge in practical situations;
  • Acquire basic skills in the area of human sciences, which allow lifelong learning with a high degree of autonomy in theoretical and practical knowledge of foreign languages.
  • Develop the ability to collect, select and interpret relevant information, textual and non-textual, enabling the reasoning of judgments that take into account the relevant social, scientific, and ethical aspects associated with the learning of new languages, literatures, and cultures;
  • Develop theoretical and practical knowledge of languages, literatures, cultures in their national historical contexts;
  • Develop communicative skills in a foreign language and in the mother tongue in variants with the Portuguese language component, fostering plurilingualism and interculturality;
  • Develop the ability to carry out autonomous work in the interdisciplinary field of literary, cultural, and linguistic studies;
  • Develop skills in the application of new technologies to literary, cultural, and linguistic sciences.
