Furniture Design and Joinery Certificate

Learn the art and trade of designing, constructing, finishing and repairing a wide range of high-quality wood products and earn apprenticeship technical training credit toward your Interprovincial (Red Seal) certification. As a graduate, you can pursue a career in furniture restoration or manufacturing, millwork and cabinets, marine joinery, residential finishing carpentry, sales or as a self-employed artisans.

Admission requirements

  1. C in English 10 or equivalent
  2. C in Math 10 or equivalent

In addition to above academic requirements, high school graduation requirement and English proficiency requirement apply to all international applicants.

Career opportunities

In this foundation program you’ll learn to design, construct, finish and repair high-quality wood products such as kitchen cabinets, furniture and fixtures. You'll earn level 1 technical training credit and work-based training hours toward your Interprovincial (Red Seal) certification when you register as an apprentice. 

As a graduate of the Furniture Design and Joinery Certificate program, you will be eligible for employment in millwork, furniture, cabinets and marine joinery. The placement rate for program graduates in the joinery industry is high. Job titles can range from residential finishing carpenter to salesperson or woodworking business owner.
