About this program

Bachelor of Nursing

Nursing is a rewarding profession and is recognised throughout the world. Nurses have the opportunity to contribute to human growth and development; to relieve pain and suffering; to instill comfort and hope; and to create optimum health for the individual and communities.

Murdoch University's School of Nursing offers a three-year Bachelor of Nursing with the aim of producing graduates who will become professional health care providers in a variety of clinical settings. This education course adds to Murdoch University's excellent track record in the field health and biological sciences.

The Bachelor of Nursing degree has been Accredited by the Nurses Board of Western Australia, so graduates will be eligible for registration in Division One of the Register as Comprehensive Registered Nurses and will be able to work in General and Mental Health clinical settings in Western Australia. Additionally, graduates will be eligible to apply for reciprocal registration with any state in Australia, enabling travel opportunities.

This Bachelor of Nursing concentrates on a strong grounding in nursing knowledge and issues and is well supported by nursing bioscience and biopsychosocial knowledge. The teaching and learning approach for this education course is unique to Western Australia in its focus on problem-and inquiry-based learning which encourages experiential learning in the nursing practice areas.

Students enrolled in Murdoch's Bachelor of Nursing undertake a practicum component of six weeks in Year One, 12 weeks in Year Two and 18 weeks in Year Three. This unique combination of workplace training and problem solving exposes students to a wide variety of clinical and caring experiences prior to graduation. At least one third of the clinical experiences will be successfully achieved in the Peel region, with the remainder being in Perth metropolitan hospitals. Emphasis throughout the theoretical and clinical program will be on professional competence, ensuring that graduating nurses will provide high quality patient care.
