Why study this course?
Our Biology of Infectious Disease (Including Foundation Year) BSc (Hons) is a four-year degree that has a built-in preparatory year, designed to provide you with an alternative route into higher education if you don’t meet the entry requirements to study our standard three-year program.
Following the foundation year you’ll begin more in-depth study of infectious diseases and on graduation you’ll receive the same award and title as students on the three-year course.
Our Biology of Infectious Disease (Including Foundation Year) BSc (Hons) degree begins with a foundation year, during which you’ll examine core principles of biology, biochemistry, biology and chemistry.
You'll share you foundation year with others studying science-related degrees with a foundation year. The shared curriculum will develop your technical skills and competencies in a range of specialist areas, helping you to become a confident and well-rounded scientist capable of understanding your work in a variety of scientific contexts.
Admission requirements
In addition to the University's standard entry requirements, you should have:
- At least one A level (or a minimum of 32 UCAS points from an equivalent Level 3 qualification, eg BTEC Subsidiary/National/BTEC Extended Diploma)
- English Language and Mathematics GCSEs at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent)
If you meet the UCAS points criteria but obtained a D/3 in English and/or Mathematics at GCSE, you may be offered a University test in these areas.
