Program description

At Keele University, we’re different. Nestled in 600 acres of countryside in the heart of the UK, we have a big campus but a small and cosmopolitan community. We proudly rank 1st for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey for the last three years. This is because it’s more than green and lovely, it’s a place of research and academic excellence too.

Media and
Film Studies are the study of communication forms that have become central
to every aspect of our lives. Media and Film Studies are the study of communication forms that
have become central to every aspect of our lives. You will study a range
of cultural texts such as film, television, photography, advertisements,
magazines, digital media and news production. As part of the
programme, you will investigate the relationship between historical
and cultural movements and media and film production, exploring the
ways in which these forms are products of their time but in turn affect
society. You will get the opportunity to produce cultural artefacts
of your own through our series of practical modules ranging from
photography to producing video and magazines online. We also
provide opportunities to take work placements through our links
to the creative and media industries.

Media and film students work in a designated 24-hour access
building with laboratory space, studios, kit, recreational space and
a screening room.

Keele enjoys high rates of graduate employment, where in 2016, were recognised nationally as 1st for employability in the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education survey. By the time you graduate, you will be ready to take up an active
and creative role in today’s media-rich world. You will develop
skills in communicating ideas to different audiences, analysis, and
critical thinking. Our recent graduates have found employment in a
range of careers such as television production, the film industry,
journalism, publishing, web design, teaching and acting as well as
postgraduate study.
