Program description

At Keele University, we’re different. Nestled in 600 acres of countryside in the heart of the UK, we have a big campus but a small and cosmopolitan community. We proudly rank 1st for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey for the last three years. This is because it’s more than green and lovely, it’s a place of research and academic excellence too.

At Keele, studying a combined honours degree will include some modules from both of the single honours degrees. In this case, your programme will be made up of a combination of modules from both Economics and Finance.

According to High Fliers research, graduates of Economics and Finance enter a buoyant jobs market
with industries and businesses such as investment banking, banking and
finance reporting the largest number of graduate vacancies.
You will study techniques used to address real world problems, learn
about investor decision making, the roles of the markets and explore
concepts such as moral hazard, adverse selection, information
asymmetry, arbitrage, optimal risk sharing and informational efficiency.

The programme studies the behaviour and performance of households,
businesses and governments, analyses markets and consumers'
behaviour and evaluates fiscal and monetary policies from both a
micro and macro-economic perspective. You will also consider
wider contemporary issues such as the problems currently faced in
banking and lending markets as well as the ethics of business and
corporate citizenship.

With access to professional software tools such as Bloomberg and Stata,
you will gain confidence in analysing and interpreting real economic
data and using this data to understand, interpret and manage financial
situations in a range of private and public sector contexts.
You will have a foundation for many careers in business and government.

You might work as an economist in the City or with the prestigious
Government Economic Service. You could go into banking, accounting
or work as a tax advisor, or work as an investment banker, in the civil
service or within the NHS for example. You could go on to study at
postgraduate level within these fields.
