Master's degree in Psychology of Intercultural Relations

ISCTE-University Institute of Lisbon

Program description

Psychology of Intercultural Relations

Globalization increases intercultural contact, especially in Portugal due to its history of far reaching exploration, leading to myriad strong current relationships with other nations. With a team of highly qualified and internationally recognized experts, the Master of Psychology of Intercultural Relations of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at ISCTE-IUL provides students and professionals with the tools to cultivate international social and professional relationships and contribute to the understanding of common ground in culturally diverse contexts: a fundamental need in globalized societies.

This is a unique master’s in Portugal. Within the framework of theoretical and applied social psychology it aims to analyze and explain the differences in attitudes and behaviors resulting from culture and changes in these from intercultural contact. This master’s degree will train experts in this applied field, based on knowledge of the social psychological processes inherent in intercultural contacts. Graduates will attain skills both in working in intercultural contexts and advanced methods of scientific research into issues of intergroup, including intercultural processes. It is therefore an excellent choice for students and professionals who have a degree in psychology and wish to complete their training as psychologists in intercultural psychology, as well as more general social psychology. Given the broad scope of the training of this Masters, this is also a great choice for students and professionals who graduated in other social sciences or in other technical and scientific areas and whose work or interests include intercultural relations or contexts.
