Bachelor of Public Health (Honours)
This program aims for students to develop critical and analytic skills as applied to contemporary global public health and health science studies and research. It provides students with advanced knowledge in specific areas of public health and health science from a global context. The program develops students’ ability to do research in the public health science domain. This entails the writing of a research proposal, applying suitable research methods, data collection and analysis techniques, to report findings, to draw conclusions and to make recommendations.
A relevant NQF 7 with an average of 60% or more in the third-year modules in the subject in which the student wants to specialise.

The IIE Bachelor of Public Health Honours degree (BPH(Hons)) is a one-year degree. The academic year runs from February to November. The modules are delivered on a full-time basis with lectures and tutorials being scheduled during the day from Monday to Friday.
Please note that in line with academic practice, The IIE’s curriculum is reviewed annually thus changes may occur in module structure and sequence in order to ensure that the qualification remains relevant. The exit level outcomes of the program do not change. Registered students receive an updated program curriculum on an annual basis.

The outcomes for this qualification are aligned with the skills demands and the provision of a sound theoretical base. Students who have successfully completed the program will be able to:
- Critically examine contemporary public health issues within a global context.
- Critically review the scientific literature relevant to their discipline.
- Describe the processes involved in the design, development and implementation of a research project.
- Develop a proposal for a research project and apply for ethics committee approval.
- Execute and analyse a research project, or a set of studies.
- Write up scientific work in a report suitable for publication.
Successful completion of this program leads to an IIE qualification.
As well as providing career opportunities in health promotion and policy and public health sciences, the Bachelor of Public Health (Honours) provides a pathway to postgraduate clinical programs and higher research degrees.
