Hampshire College is a small liberal arts college located in Amherst, Massachusetts that has been at the forefront of progressive higher education in the United States for over 50 years.
Every Hampshire student designs a customized program of study in close collaboration with faculty advisors. In their final year, students complete a comprehensive project that can take any number of forms (such as performance, research study, or business start-up) to culminate their studies. Classes are small and discussion-focused, and students are given ample opportunities to gain hands-on experience through internships, independent study programs, and field research semesters.
Thanks to this uniquely student-centered and research-focused curriculum, Hampshire students are well prepared for graduate studies over 65% of Hampshire alumni receive advanced degrees (such as master's degrees, PhDs, and MDs) within 10 years of graduation.
Hampshire students also have access to the vast resources of the Five College Consortium: over 7,000 classes and nearly 1,000 student organizations and club sports teams to choose from every semester, as well as numerous special certificate programs and research centers.
Hampshire is also one of the most environmentally sustainable colleges in the U.S., with a large on-campus farm and solar arrays that are able to meet 100% of its energy needs.
