Program description

EMerald Master's in Georesource Engineering

EMerald is a two-year Master’s programme (120 ECTS) organised by four European Universities – University of Liège (ULiège), University of Lorraine (UL), Luleå University of Technology (LTU) and Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF). The program is designed to focus on the following major aspects of Resources Engineering, Characterisation, Processing, Modelling and Management.

The EMerald Master Programme has been designed to find the right balance between knowledge of resources (geology, landfills, urban mines, reserve characterisation and modelling) and process engineering techniques (comminution, sorting, preconcentration, extractive metallurgy and waste disposal).

The programme is organised into four semesters (30 ECTS per semester). Semester one takes place at the University of Liège in Belgium, after which you will move to the University of Lorraine in France to complete semester two. For semester three, choose your specialisation and study at either the Luleå Institute of Technology in Sweden, or TU Bergakademie Freiberg in Germany. For your final semester, you will be based at one of these four partner universities for your research and innovation industry internship.

Admission requirements

Eligible candidates must have a Bachelor degree in Engineering with basic knowledge in Geology or a Bachelor degree in Minerals Engineering, Mining Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or a Master degree in Geology

At least 22.5 ECTS in Mathematics at university level are required. Candidates must also demonstrate proficiency in the English language.

  • 9000€/year for non-European students
  • 4500€/year for Europeans

Scholarships & funding

For students beginning in September 2020, EIT Label scholarships from EIT Raw Materials of €13,500 per eligible student are available.
