Program description

MSc Science Education and Communication

Would you like to be the key link between science, technology and society?  Or involve young people in the world of science and technology?  In that case the MSc Science Education and Communication (SEC) could be the ideal choice.

The SEC MSc programme builds on a Bachelor of Science degree. The MSc deepens your previous science and engineering knowledge as well as introduces you in education and science communication topics. The MSc provides you with knowledge and skills to get the message across. You will be able to design and deliver effective communication and education in the science and technology domain.

Science Education Track
This track includes the Dutch teacher education programme. You will become a teacher in one of four subjects in upper secondary education: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Computer Science. Teachers in upper secondary education have a thorough knowledge of the field as well as specific teacher competencies. They are qualified to teach in the higher HAVO and VWO classes.

How would you introduce young people in the world of science and technology development?

As this programme prepares for teaching in Dutch education, the working language is Dutch. Only students who understand, speak and write Dutch fluently are eligible for the teacher education programme. Therefore, the Education programme information is only available in Dutch (please use the language switch on the right top of the page).

Science Communication Track
The Science Communication track educates you to be a science communication specialist. The rapidity of developments in science and technology leads to very far-reaching changes in society. Decision makers and members of the general public often find it difficult to understand the implications of these changes.

As a science communication engineer you will be in a position to facilitate dialogue and effective knowledge transfer between scientists and key players in industry and government. In addition, you will function as a bridge between science and technology, and society at large, thus helping society to make informed choices in the technological field.

The MSc SEC can be combined with other MSc-programmes in order to obtain a double degree.
