The Data Engineer expert is one of the most important job in the Big Data Industry. This 9 months of classes and 6-month internship Applied MSc programme, with its two entries in Autumn and Spring, is designed to open your career to these Big Data Engineering jobs all industries are looking for.

Classes for this Applied MSc programme are offered on a full-time basis from DSTI campuses (around 5hrs a day), Online or in SPOC mode (self-paced and montlhy intakes).

There is an important shortage of big data experts and companies in various sectors suffer from this. Data Engineering specialists are in high demand and enterprises know the real value of their roles. In France-Benelux, we have seen a big increase in the demand for skilled people in data engineering in both start-ups and world leading companies. For every data scientist there is a need for at least two experts in data engineering.

A data engineer role is a highly technical position and requires skills such as programming, mathematics and computer science.

Program content

Programme Structure 

  • 805-hour programme – 60 ECTS (including 740 hours of classes including 75 hours of DSTI Warm Up and 65 hours of support sessions)
  • 850-hour internship (6 months) – The internship is equivalent to 30 ECTS

In this Applied MSc programme, you will:

  • Learn how to understand the analysis, design, implementation & monitoring of IT & Big Data architectures;
  • Leverage the most prevalent programming languages and their libraries for applied machine and deep learning;
  • Learn how to architect and deploy highly distributed data and computation clusters such as Hadoop or SPARK;
  • Discover the DevOps world and set up continuous integration architecture.

DSTI Warm Up

The Applied MSc programmes include preparatory courses to get you up to speed on skills required to start leveraging the different topics. For the Applied MSc in Data Engineering for Artificial Intelligence, the DSTI Warm Up lasts 3 weeks (75 hours) and can be followed on-campus or online.

Program delivery

You can choose to join the Applied MSc in Data Engineering for Artificial Intelligence through 3 modes of studies. Classes are offered either full-time On-Campus/Off-Campus or part-time in Self-Paced Online Course (SPOC) mode.

1. On-Campus

DSTI students who are undertaking their study on-campus will attend their scheduled classes in person on either Sophia-Antipolis or Paris campus. They will also make face-to-face contact with teachers, as well as other on-campus students. You will follow 9 months of courses (around 5hrs per day), followed by 6 months of internship.

2. Off-Campus (online - full time)

DSTI has HD telepresence technology in both campuses, allowing us to open online education access, with a live cast over the web, for distant students to stay at home while following our Applied MSc programmes.

3. Self-Paced Online Course (at your own pace)

Designed for working professionals!

The self-paced online course includes monthly intakes giving you the opportunity to decide when you want to start the programme on a schedule that suits you. 

The SPOC mode is designed for working individuals who cannot afford to suspend their jobs for six months but still show a strong commitment to acquiring new skills and further their careers. Aspiring Data Scientists and Data Engineers will be able to acquire advanced competencies and make strategic data-driven decisions. 


The following tuition fees are subject to change for the next academic year.

  • €16,500

  • Regarding the apprenticeship study mode (in France only), all tuition fees are paid by the host company.


Once your studies and professional experience are completed, your achievements will be assessed by our Graduation Committee. If successful, you will be able to obtain the degree “Expert en Sciences des Données” (Expert in Data Science). DSTI is proud of its Applied MSc in Data Science & AI and Applied MSc in Data Engineering for AI to have been fully accredited at Master’s level by the French Government via the RNCP mechanism. The RNCP “Répertoire National des Certifications Professionnelles” is a government recognition mechanism dedicated to scrutinising programmes’ suitability for the work market. A RNCP title rewards specific needs in terms of skills and knowledge transfer for immediate employability, which is the heart of DSTI philosophy.

Career paths

The average salary of an experienced Data Engineer can range from 54,000 euros to 63,000 euros. Since 2016, the demand for this job position has been increasing and is driven by the growing transition of companies from traditional BI systems to Big Data systems. For every data scientist there is a need for at least two experts in data engineering.
