B.A. in International Relations: Global Affairs

This Bachelor of Arts program enables students to fully experience the cultural dynamism of Central Europe. Students can expect to gain a solid background in international relations and political theory, history, philosophy, nationalism or security.

The Bachelor of Arts in International Relations is a three-year undergraduate program offering a modern and interdisciplinary education in international relations. The program builds on knowledge of theoretical and philosophical concepts across historical contexts helping students better understand politics internationally as well as domestically. The curriculum offers a balanced mix of courses on political and international relations theory, economy, philosophy and history which provide students with a solid knowledge base for their further specialization in required and elective courses dedicated to international security, foreign policy or European integration. The curriculum is complemented by a range of skills-oriented courses on writing, research or classes increasing student’s proficiency in languages other than English.

Global Affairs concentration

This concentration is an answer to the trends pertaining to globalization of Western societies; the curriculum transcends disciplines and offers and interplay of courses in global governance, East-West relations, democracy, religion and security.

Admission requirements

Language Requirements

English proficiency at a level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). There are multiple tests that AAU recognizes as evidence of the B2 level proficiency, especially:

  • TOEFL (iBT min. 71, PBT min. 525)
  • IELTS (min. 6 – minimum of 5.5 in each subtest)

Based on 15 credits (five classes)

Additional fees will include: CZK 4,750 Administrative fee

New visa seeking students fee is CZK 85,050 (bachelor students)

Qualification

Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the B.A. in International Relations can expect to:

  • Situate their arguments within the general ontological and epistemological frameworks of International Relations; discuss and debate basic theories, levels of analysis and empirical evidence used in relevant scholarly literature.
  • Apply, at a basic level, relevant theories to compare and contrast the meanings and functions of political institutions in different political systems and to explain the outcomes and performance of political processes.
  • Apply, at a basic level, relevant theories to understand the working of global economy, and to assess the role of various actors (businesses, governments, international organizations).
  • Apply, at a basic level, relevant theories to understand history, and current events in international relations.
  • Apply, at a basic level, relevant theories to understand European integration history, the working of the EU institutions, and selected European Union policy areas

Degree Awarded

Having completed all program requirements, students are conferred a Bachelors degree. The degree awarded is concurrently recognized as a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in the United States, per AAU's accreditation by the WASC Senior College and University Commission, and as a Bakalář (Bc.) accredited by the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic. Graduates may select whether to use the U.S. post-nominal or the Czech title.
