Program description

Sustainable Heritage Management (SHM)

This program provides students with the knowledge and skills required to meet the challenges of contemporary heritage management. Cultural and natural heritage involves not only the links between humanity and its past, but is also an integral part of the present and a resource for its future.

Managing heritage requires attending to the survivability and inherent qualities of objects, sites and traditions, as well as different stakes and claims that often surround them. This Master's programme equips students with what is required to work within this constantly expanding and complex heritage field.

Heritage management is a highly interdisciplinary field involving approaches and methodologies from various disciplines. The programme is anchored in a research environment that includes scholars from cultural studies, evolutionary studies, intellectual history, archaeology, anthropology, digital design, museology, aesthetics, history and digital design.

Graduates will acquire the skills to operate with heritage in institutions such as heritage and planning agencies, museums, municipal and city councils, as well as in international organisations, civic organisations and private enterprises.
