96 Health Sciences Preparatory Programs

NLC's Associate of Arts Degree (Health Studies) prepares students for entry into health-related degree programs, with an emphasis on the University of Northern British Columbia's Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program. The two-year Associate Degree (Health Studies) provides broad coverage across the Arts and Sciences while introducing students to nursing as a career and meeting UNBC's core prerequisite requirements in the social sciences, English, Indigenous studies, human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, psychology, and statistics. Students who complete NLC's Associate of Arts Degree (Health Studies) with UNBC's grade requirements have an optimal transfer pathway into the Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program (Please see the NBNP webpage for more information) and will be included among NLC students who have first claim to a designated number of seats each year. The partnership between NLC and UNBC enables prospective Registered Nurses to complete their post-secondary education in the north, for employment in the north.

The Pre-Health Sciences Certificate introduces students to diverse career options available in the health field. Students who have an interest in health care but are uncertain about career direction have an opportunity to explore fundamental concepts related to health.

You’ll develop knowledge about how the body functions at various levels, from the physical, chemical, biochemical, molecular and cellular levels, through to functional organ systems and factors affecting health and disease in human populations. You’ll gain a strong foundation in the biological sciences, unlocking a wide range of study pathways in health-related fields.

In this Diploma of Higher Education in Health Sciences, you’ll study the essential scientific concepts underpinning the function of the human mind and body; the incidence, diagnosis and treatment of disease and disability; and the maintenance and improvement of health in different populations. It’s particularly relevant if you work in health-related professions, or you’re thinking about doing so.

This Certificate of Higher Education in Health Sciences offers an accessible and engaging introduction to the science behind human health and disease. If you’re interested in health science and developing essential skills for study, this course is for you. By the end of your study, you’ll have a valuable qualification under your belt and be on your way to an honours degree.

The Diploma in Health Sciences aims to prepare individuals for more advanced health-related careers and higher qualifications which allows them to progress to bachelor's and later master's level. The content covers developmental, physical, psychological, spiritual and mental aspects of human health.

To qualify for the Associate in Science in Health Sciences degree, students must satisfactorily complete the Degree Major requirements specified below and the local AA/ AS General Education requirements.

The Core Course in Public Health and Health Equity is a 3 months course that prepares you to systematically analyse and address complex public health issues, covering epidemiology, health system aspects, and broader social determinants of health. The course focuses on health equity in low-resource settings and high-resource settings with disadvantaged populations. It can be taken as a stand-alone course or as part of the Master of Science in Public Health and Health Equity. It forms also part of the post-graduate training programme for physicians leading to a diploma as MD Global Health (AIGT).

Planning and programming are major components of programme management by any health system actor such as governments, national and international non-governmental organisations and the private sector: being able to plan well and set up effective programmes is a key competence of any health programme manager and health sector consultant.

Overview of health development across the lifespan followed by an examination of common conditions that typically begin in certain stages. Each condition will be examined for its individual, group and systemic impacts.

The Foundation Course is a study program, taught in English and primarily aimed at candidates who do not possess the minimum schooling requirements outlined in current legislation for enrolment at Italian universities. Attendance of the Foundation Course is mandatory and students must accumulate all the credits provided by the course in order to obtain the final qualification. The modules available within the Foundation Course are taught in English and a Foundation Course in Science prepares students interested in studying a degree program in Medicine, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Maths, Natural Sciences, Pharmacy, and Physics.
