22 Security Preparatory Programs

Certificate II in Technical Security is a qualification for security technicians who sell, install, repair, service and maintain security equipment and systems that protect people and property and prevent or minimize loss and damage. Technicians at this level operate under general supervision and interact with clients to perform installation, repair, service and maintenance tasks at client premises.

Build a strong foundation of the fundamentals in criminology, sociology, psychology, and the criminal justice system to prepare for wide-ranging career paths wherever security teams are needed, including emergency services, policing, private security, and the Canadian Security Intelligence Services (CSIS) Forces. Beginning in the first semester, you’ll get real-world exposure through field trips to witness security and protection systems in action. To complement your theoretical knowledge, you’ll undertake safe, hands-on training in our on-campus scenario room to practice different techniques and skills.

Just imagine that all the security measures of our IT systems are undermined from one day to the next. Hackers have access to virtually every networked information system and can manipulate data at their own discretion. The consequences of such a scenario are dramatic. IT security today is based on problems that cannot be solved by an ordinary computer, or only with a disproportionately large amount of effort. This principle forms the basis of the modern communication society.

This course has been approved by the Maritime & Coastguard Agency in the UK to satisfy the requirements of the International Maritime Organisation’s International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code), which is part of the Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) regulations. This training meets the requirements of Section A-V1/6 paragraph 4 of the amended STCW code.

Installers must develop a knowledge of the range of equipment, including electronic and electrical surveillance systems and closed-circuit TV, as well as knowledge of simple electronic principles and terminating techniques. They must also understand the principles of operation and characteristics of controllers, detectors, relays, bells, sirens, screamers, and telephone circuits.
