The Associate in Arts in Communication for Transfer Degree is designed to prepare students to complete the baccalaureate degree in communication upon transferring into the CSU system. Communication skills are essential to forming and maintaining personal relationships, acquiring and excelling in a job, and relating to the world around us. Through the study and practice of interpersonal, professional, and intercultural communication skills, students will learn how their perceptions and self-esteem affect their interactions with others.

The Communication Studies Transfer major focuses on how people construct, use, and interpret messages across multiple channels to inform, persuade, manage, relate, and generally influence each other within and across varying cultural venues. Emphasis is also placed on identifying and valuing disparate systems of social norms and values that influence the human communicative process.

The Communication Studies program is designed for students interested in studying how humans construct and share meaning. This program allows individuals to become communicators in various social contexts, from interpersonal to debate to public communication. Completion of the Communication Studies: Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) will prepare you to meet minimum lower-division admission requirements (60 transferable units) for transfer to a California State University (CSU). The BTS Communication aims to train you in the design, implementation and management of internal or external communication operations such as advertising, relational, event and institutional. In an agency, you will also have a commercial and advisory role with advertisers. The distance learning BTS COM will train you in different areas of communication.

A Communication Studies Associate in Arts for Transfer (AA-T) from Skyline College is intended for students who are interested in transferring to a California State University (CSU) campus with a major in Communication Studies, or similar major.

Research has shown that strong communication skills provide the necessary foundation needed to be successful in business, social, and personal relationships. According to the National Communication Association, “At its foundation, communication focuses on how people use messages to generate meanings within and across various contexts, and is the discipline that studies all forms, modes, media, and consequences of communication through humanistic, social scientific, and aesthetic inquiry.”

At the beginning of the Diploma in Information & Communication Technology, students will acquire basic mathematical, language, and communication skills along with core information technology skills.

Adapted from our popular Communication and Culture Program for international university students and professionals, this summer youth program offers international high school students (ages 14-17) an enriching, transformational educational experience. TCC's program provides an introduction to the concepts, theories, terminology, and current topics in the versatile and popular field of Communications. The Communication Studies (CMST) emphasis of the Associate of Arts (DTA) degree prepares students for the challenges of a world that are shaped by communication that is rich with intercultural exchange. Students specializing in Communication Studies examine and produce work in oral, written, media, and visual communication and practice critical skills in groups and one-on-one settings.

The Associate in Arts in Communication Studies for Transfer (AA-T in Communication Studies) provides a clear pathway to a CSU institution for students who plan to transfer and complete a CSU major or baccalaureate degree in Communication Studies. Students gain self-awareness and the ability to build bridges with diverse audiences. The broad-based transfer curriculum includes interpersonal, intercultural, and group communication, public communication, argumentation and debate, and speech team activities.

This APIIT Certificate in Information & Communication Technology (CICT) is designed to provide strong communication, leadership, and ICT skills as well as fundamental knowledge to take on a career in this challenging and ever-changing IT world.

Students who have a Diploma in Public Relations and Communication should be able to execute specialized public relations activities; produce communication media for the public relations context; use theory to shape the broader context in which a public relations practitioner functions; use administration and leadership qualities as a public relations professional.

The Communication Program prepares students to transfer to a four-year college or university to obtain a degree in communication or a related social science field.
