Given the inter-campus and inter-campus nature of the Department of Microbiology and Parasitology (Santiago and Lugo Campus), the scientific interest of this Doctoral Program lies in the fact that it brings together the different lines of research in the fields of Biology, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Medicine and Food Science and Technology developed by the members of the Department within the Microbiology and Parasitology Knowledge Areas.

The Doctorate Program in Mathematics, associated with the "Campus Vida" of International Excellence of the USC, and with a quality mention obtained in 2008, has a long history at this University. The doctors trained in it created research groups that attended and successfully attend regional, national and European calls for funding and their publications achieved and continue to achieve levels of high quality and impact.

At present, with the rapid evolution of engineering and applied sciences, the need to train specialists in the modeling and numerical simulation of processes that come from the industrial or business field is evident, so that, in these fields, promote from the University the transfer of knowledge and the incorporation of doctors to the R & D & i departments, with training aimed at optimizing processes, reducing costs, improving the quality of products, designing new technologies, increasing safety, reducing environmental pollution, etc.

The Doctoral Program in Basic and Applied Research in Veterinary Sciences, proposes advanced and specialized training in the body of conceptual, procedural and technical knowledge that allows adequate development in the field of biomedical sciences. This Program is characterized by its interdisciplinarity, covering basic, applied and clinical areas. It has the participation of different research groups that develop their activity in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

The science and optical technology of lasers, photonics and vision is a field of knowledge whose objective is the study of the generation, transmission, detection, control and manipulation of light. This study is oriented to the development of technologies with applications of high interest in multiple and disparate socioeconomic and health fields, ranging from telecommunications, life and health sciences, the environment, industrial metrology, leisure ... Up to scientific-technical frontiers such as nano-optics, quantum processing and communications, optical metamaterials, etc.

The program aims to continue with the quality training of researchers in the field of the molecular bases of human diseases. Research in human health is a priority axis of the different knowledge management and innovation programs, both at the regional, state and European level.

The Doctoral Program in Materials Sciences arises with the aim of providing the industrial and R & D & I sector with highly qualified professionals in this emerging and interdisciplinary area capable of solving the problems that are formulated in the new and increasingly economically important fields of electronic materials, functional materials, biomaterials and nanomaterials.

The degree aims to provide a broad and solid training in Mathematics, as it contains a wide range of research topics that cover many relevant areas of mathematics, as well as its applications to Physics, Biology, Medicine, Computing, Ecology, Biotechnology, Economics …

The Doctoral Program in Fluid Thermodynamic Engineering is a scientific-technological program defined from two concepts, thermodynamics (from the Greek force of heat) and fluid as a working material system. His lines of research are articulated from energy, its transformations, work fluids and chemical processes and its objectives focus on efficiency and sustainability as the foundations of the technological development of society.

The doctoral program is developed in the prestigious field of Nuclear and Particle Physics, which tries to understand the structure of matter by studying its most elementary components in terms of nuclei, particles and the interactions between them.
