Introduction

Given the inter-campus and inter-campus nature of the Department of Microbiology and Parasitology (Santiago and Lugo Campus), the scientific interest of this Doctoral Program lies in the fact that it brings together the different lines of research in the fields of Biology, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Medicine and Food Science and Technology developed by the members of the Department within the Microbiology and Parasitology Knowledge Areas.

The transversal and interdisciplinary nature of the doctoral program will allow the student to deepen their research topic from a comparative perspective and specialize in clinical, ecological, taxonomic and biotechnological aspects of great socioeconomic interest, which will be very useful for the doctorate in your professional future as a researcher.

  • Comprehensive study of protozoa and enteric viruses of water and food transmission
  • Diagnosis, treatment and prevention of human and animal infectious diseases
  • Molecular studies and development of vaccines against meningococcal meningitis
  • Genetic improvement of yeasts and bacteria of industrial interest
  • Pathogenesis, epidemiology and microbiological diagnosis of Escherichia coli causing infection in humans and animals

  • Bacterial communication: Quorum Sensing, Quorum Quenching and biotechnological applications
