Students who complete the Welder Foundation program will receive Levels 1 and 2 technical training and 300 work-based hours credit toward completing their Welder Apprenticeship. Certified welders will qualify to test for Pressure Welding IT Procedure tests administered by Technical Safety BC (TSBC).

Welding is a high-demand trade, one that is critical for the success of many major development projects in every province across the country. The Welding Techniques program prepares students with practical, hands-on experience that applies the technical theory and elements of the welding field. Our state-of-the-art welding lab includes 26 individual stations that allow students to train in a controlled environment, as well as our virtual welding stations that offer students the opportunity to practice using realistic simulations. The Smart Welding Lab also provides a monitor and specialized infrared camera that lets instructors demonstrate and digitally document welding techniques.

The Welding Engineering Technology program offers full- time, two years of hands-on education. The first year focuses on academic fundamentals and structural steel design and fabrication. During the second year, you will learn pressure vessel design, construction, and testing. You will design, build and test a pressure vessel as part of your final project. Practical welding skills are also developed to gain an in-depth understanding of welding processes.

Are you interested in a career that requires hands-on and problem-solving skills? Consider becoming a welder! The Welding Applied Certificate is a 20-week program with 5 weeks of career skills training and a paid 8-week work placement. Build your knowledge and skills in operating welding equipment and performing basic welding operations. You’ll get hands-on instruction in shop practice and safety, oxy/acetylene fusion welding, cutting, gas metal arc welding (MIG), and shielded metal arc welding (stick) welding. Plus, you’ll develop additional skills in the work experience component. When you graduate, you’ll be prepared for an entry-level job in a variety of industries that need welders. Trade time and academic credit may be available for graduates who find employment in the trade and register as apprentices.

The Aviron Technical Institute of Montreal offers in-house General Welding training. This course gives welders an opportunity to use both their technical knowledge and their manual dexterity. The Diploma of Welding and Fabrication Technician is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program with a paid co-op component. Students will learn a mix of theoretical and practical knowledge in the new state-of-the-art welding lab. Graduates will feel confident entering the workforce after a significant amount of in-lab practice time to master their craft.

Take metal fabrication projects from the engineering drawing stage through the cutting and forming processes to the welding and inspection phase. Working in our welding lab, you’ll gain hands-on experience by using industry-standard equipment to hone your welding skills and take projects from concept to finished product. You have the option to start your apprenticeship and will also have unique opportunities to work on community and applied research projects and polish your skills in the real world. Required work preparation sessions help you develop an industry-specific resume and effective interviewing skills. Our program features an optional, paid co-op directly related to your program of study.

Learn a variety of practical welding skills, including cutting, fusion and gas welding, all required to work as an apprentice welder. Welding Processes: Apprentices learn about various welding processes commonly used in the industry, including shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW). They gain hands-on experience in each of these processes to develop proficiency.

Welders are trained and capable of welding ferrous and non-ferrous metals in all positions, on both plate and/or pipe, using various welding processes. Note: this program is for welders who are sponsored by their employer and are registered with SkilledTradesBC. Welders who are not "active" registered with SkilledTradesBC and track their hours in a Welder Logbook should review the modular option for apprenticeship training.
