Chemistry is the study of the properties, composition and chemical transformations of all material substances. It is often referred to as the central science since it draws from mathematics and physics and forms a necessary background to the understanding of earth science and all the biological disciplines, including the various medical professions. The Chemistry program at SJCC offers courses that satisfy general education requirements, allied-health science, engineers, chemistry, biology and physics majors.

The Foundation Course is a study program, taught in English and primarily aimed at candidates who do not possess the minimum schooling requirements outlined in current legislation for enrolment at Italian universities. Attendance of the Foundation Course is mandatory and students must accumulate all the credits provided by the course in order to obtain the final qualification. The modules available within the Foundation Course are taught in English and a Foundation Course in Science prepares students interested in studying a degree program in Medicine, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Maths, Natural Sciences, Pharmacy, and Physics.

Study the effects of natural processes and their interactions with the physical world in this two-year associate program intended to ready you for a transfer to a four-year institution. The Direct Transfer Agreement degree prepares students for upper-division study in the areas of biological sciences, environmental/resource sciences, chemistry, geology, and earth science.

Biology is the study of life! Students in the biological sciences will learn critical thinking and develop analytical and investigative skills. According to O-Net Online, career opportunities in the biological sciences are growing at a rate 10-14% faster than the national average. The Biology program map below includes all of your major coursework and recommended general education courses by term that is needed to fulfill your degree and transfer requirements. This pathway is geared toward students working toward transfer to CSU, but can be used for transfer to University of California (UC) System as well. Those students working toward transfer to UC should take CHE-12A and CHE-12B (Organic Chemistry I and II) instead of or in addition to PHY-2A and PHY-2B.

You’ll learn about matter and energy down to the molecular level. Courses build a solid foundation in general chemistry and develop your understanding of the scientific method of experimentation, observation, and analysis of results. You’ll also gain hands-on experience in the lab.

Biology is a versatile discipline that can be tailored to individual interests and community needs. Our programs will prepare you to transfer to four-year institutions or for direct entry into professional programs, like SCC’s Allied Health and Nursing programs.

You’ll complete the requirements of the freshman and sophomore years of most engineering programs at a university. This pre-major program is designed to prepare you to transfer at the junior level into an engineering program at a four-year college or university.

You should consider a career in chemistry if you like science and math, working with your hands, performing laboratory experiments, or computer modeling. As a chemistry student at Edmonds College, you will have opportunities to gain hands-on experience, work as an intern in government and commercial labs, and make career and networking contacts.

This two-year diploma program enables you to pursue a university education in the sciences and complete a diploma and a university degree in as little as four years at the University of Toronto (St. George or Scarborough), York University, or Trent University. Courses include Math, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and a range of Humanities and Social Sciences.

In this two-year diploma program, you will benefit from practical training and learn the essential principles and techniques used in the biochemical sciences. You will gain hands-on experience needed to perform experiments and determinations with the precision required in a broad range of industries. That means getting hands-on training in the proper care and use of laboratory apparatus for wet and instrumental methods.

The Associate of Science (Mathematics) Degree is a two-year undergraduate degree and will enhance skills as well as provide experiences and aptitudes in the following areas: Knowledge in Mathematics; Familiarity with the applications of Mathematics; Ability to analyze and interpret data; Ability to apply quantitative skills. Upon completion of the Associate of Science (Mathematics) Degree program, students may choose to enter the workforce or continue their undergraduate studies.
