The Associate in Arts for Transfer Degree in Geography focuses on the world’s physical and social processes. While Geography majors may go on to specialize in a specific area of Geography, the AAT provides students with a foundational understanding of the main systems and processes that interact to produce and maintain our physical and social world, as well as the tools to study them, including GIS (Geographic Information Systems).

An Associate in Arts in Geography for Transfer (AA-T) from Skyline College is intended for students who are interested in transferring to a California State University (CSU) campus with a major in Geography, or similar major.

Geography majors develop knowledge of international culture, environment, geoscience, history and politics while building critical thinking, analytical reasoning and practical problem-solving skills useful in a broad range of careers in today's complex, interconnected world. Completion of the Associate of Arts in Geography Degree for Transfer (Geography ADT) will prepare you to meet minimum lower division admission requirements (60 transferable units) for transfer to a California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC). Some UC schools may require additional coursework, so please meet with a counselor for further assistance. The Geography program map below includes all of the major coursework and recommended General Education courses by term that are needed to fulfill the degree and transfer requirements at a CSU.

Geography combines natural and social sciences to explore human interaction with the environment and the social, political, economic and cultural forces that shape it. Whether you love the outdoors, are concerned about human impact on the environment, or want to design better future communities, geography is the perfect field for you! All geography courses are university-transferable and may be counted towards a 2-year, 60 credit, multidisciplinary Associate Degree of Arts.

Cultural geography is the interdisciplinary study of spatial practices through which individuals and sociocultural groups create meaningful environments and ascribe order to landscapes, nature, and the terrestrial realm as a whole. Drawing from the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, the discipline examines the ways in which humans experience, define, delimit, and shape spaces and places through time. This course is a hands-on introduction to major themes of cultural geography, with regular project work and several field trips. Independent studies and several group excursions in a variety of wild, agricultural, small town, and urban landscapes in the Berkshires and beyond will provide practice in research techniques including field journal writing; the use of narratives, oral histories, archives, and literary sources; map reading and interpretation; and basic cartography.

UFSC Geography Program offers two types of degrees: an undergraduate degree that prepares for recognition activities, surveys, geo-economic and physico-geographical studies, and other tasks in the general and specific fields of Geography, and an undergraduate teaching degree that prepares students for a career in primary and secondary school teaching. The program belongs to the Department of Geosciences at the School of Human Sciences and Philosophy. It is linked to five specific areas of this department: physical geography, human geography, cartography, geology and oceanography.

A Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Environmental Geography is an undergraduate program that integrates the study of environmental science and geography. It focuses on understanding the interactions between humans and the environment, exploring environmental issues, and developing sustainable solutions. Here are some key aspects and topics typically covered in a BA in Environmental Geography program: Environmental Science Fundamentals: Students learn foundational concepts in environmental science, including ecosystems, biodiversity, natural resource management, pollution, climate change, and sustainability. They gain a holistic understanding of environmental processes and human impacts on the Earth's systems.

Immediate crises, such as hurricanes and earthquakes, and ongoing challenges, such as overuse and pollution of ecosystems, point to the importance of studying the intersection of earth processes with human societies. Students interested in understanding these interactions as they are approached both by Earth Science and by Geography can elect an interdisciplinary major that combines these two disciplines. In Earth Science, students gain an understanding of natural processes that impact the distribution and use of resources such as water, fossil fuels, and soil, as well as natural hazards such as climate change, tsunamis, and earthquakes. In Geography, students learn about the spatial distribution of physical and human phenomena and how human societies are shaped by, and also change, the natural world.

A Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Environment and Physical Geography is an undergraduate program that combines the study of the Earth's physical processes with a focus on environmental systems and sustainability. Here are some key aspects and topics typically covered in a BSc in Environment and Physical Geography program: Physical Geography: This area of study focuses on natural processes and features of the Earth's surface, including landforms, climate, weather patterns, soils, and ecosystems. Students learn about the forces shaping the Earth's landscape, such as erosion, plate tectonics, glaciation, and weathering.

The Minor in Geography is a flexible program that offers students the choice of focusing on a specific Geography sub-discipline or following courses of interest in both Human and Physical Geography. Either way, the Minor establishes a comprehensive understanding of conceptual knowledge and applied skills supporting further study in Geography or related fields, engaged citizenship, and introductory employment in the public and private sectors.

Geography is an engaging and flexible course allowing you to study the relationships between human populations and their physical environments at a variety of levels from local to global. You will consider your own role in relation to the key issues studied, as geography plays a huge part in all our everyday lives. Jobs may be found in all areas, from drilling for oil in the middle of the ocean, to conservation work in tropical ecosystems. Geographers help to find natural resources and research into alternative energy technologies. With qualifications in Geography, you can help change the future. As part of your course you will have the opportunity to engage in practical fieldwork activities.

Geography combines the study of both social and natural science. During the course you'll look at the earth and its atmosphere, as well as how human activity can affect them. You'll also look deeper in to the natural environment and how human culture interacts with different landscapes. The course will provide you with an understanding of where things are found, why they are there and how they can develop over time.
